Step X Step

Manousakis

Alexandra's Nostos Red Blend 2017

Popped and poured; no formal notes. This is a step up in complexity with a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The Syrah plays a heavy role and sets the tone for color and aromatics which is dark purple and olive and black pepper respectively. The fruit is more mixed brambles with some licorice and baking spices. This is made with the estates’ younger vines and it certainly has a youthful energy about it. — a year ago

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 1981

#sauternes so sweet and balanced. Third of three bottles for my wife’s 40th birthday. We saved the best for last, as it turns out. Honeyed layers as this gently warms in a Burgundy bowl - caramel, marzipan, toasted almonds, some petrol, apricot jam. Tastes exactly how it smells with the acidity taking a step back from the honey sweetness swirling around a luscious oily mouthfeel. Touch of orange pith bitterness on the finish - lovely wine. Indeed it pairs well with Indian food but the force of this wine could have easily matched even spicier dishes. Beautiful wine and what’s amazing is it seemed this wine could easily go another 20 years. Good Sauternes is ever youthful. — 3 years ago

A step up from the standard Aluado. More depth. Less soft. Really enjoyed — 4 years ago

Niagara Peninsula Rosé Blend 2021

Perfect summer sipper, dry but not too much, just perfect for sweetness, mildly fruity. A step sweeter than French rose's, would definitely buy again — 2 years ago

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Higher marks for being the complimentary wine in the Air France lounge. Here’s to hoping Delta can step it up. — 3 years ago

Henriot

Millésime Brut Champagne Blend 2008

2008 Henriot Millésimé. Sharp nose of lemon and lime, crushed riverbed rocks and slight floral notes. Sharp and crisp on the palate, almost wishing for the acidity to take a step back for the wine to unfold. Long finish. Let’s see how this develop in a few years. — 4 years ago

Schiopetto

Collio Pinot Bianco 2019

Beautiful full deep medium gold… surprising for such a young white wine. Enticing bright aroma of spring flowers and juicy dripping ripe orchard fruit. Every once in a while you run into a wine that just knocks you back a step.. this is such a wine. Rich, ripe, round, weighted, serious, lip-smacking good, complex, alive, smile-inducing, with a finish that makes you want to pour a glass for everyone you know. We consumed this wine with extremely well-made takeout Indian… Tikka Chicken, warm spicy Chana, and downright hot Lamb Vindaloo… this elixir stood up to the hodge-lodge and made it better. I need to buy this wine by the case. — 3 years ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

Perfectly stored btl of La Mission that is one of my favorite drinking vintages. This has been fully mature for more than 10 years & has not lost a step showing the classic La Mish character. An underrated vintage that has never disappointed. — 4 years ago
