Highlight of the night! And a surprise to some degree. I kind off had given up on Lynch Bages. Given the high price, to me, the 2015 and 2016 were below expectation. But, boy, this 2018 rung all bells. Super concentrated, layers of evolving dark cherry, blueberry, current flavors and a superb balanced finish. All one could wish for. — 10 months ago

Using a library photo from Delectable. The vintage I had was 2014 which was a brilliant White Burgundy vintage. The nose showing struck match sulphides - also mineral with flint. Notes of fresh herbs with white flowers. Palate is restrained but very precise. The first white from the Burgundy dinner in Sydney on August 7. Just catching up with notes now. The food match with steamed Murray Cod was superb. — 2 months ago

The sleeper vintage, one at this time I bet to be even more showy than the illustrious 2000. It’s simply just ready to go after a short decant wafting from the glass with layers of cassis, black truffle, violets and licorice. This is a wine of texture and elegance, as Margaux should be—It’s liquid cashmere in the mouth with melting tannins and a black truffle and mineral inflicted finale that keeps on going. Quite primary but really expressive for a young L’Ermitage Blanc from Chave. Juicy pear, nectarine and mandarins orange fruit that pairs well with notes of hazelnuts, candle wax and creamy brown spice. Unctuous, hedonistic and dense on the palate with pear, blood orange, quince and nectarine favors. The unctuous nature is kept in check with mineral notes if warm stones and graphite. There is superb density to the fruit and spice. The finish is long with orchard fruit tones and vibrant mineral notes. Dynamite to drink currently but has such potential for increased complexity and depth. Really needs 10 more years in the cellar before the next evaluation. The best young Chave Blanc I have tasted and I have been fortunate to try them young since the 1997 vintage. — 4 years ago

Pours a deep cherry with a tawny rim. Nose of an old cedar chest of drawers, blueberry, blackcurrant and earth - very polished. Those notes from the nose translate onto the medium + bodied palate - reflecting the excellent vintage. It’s easy to get swept up with Grand Cru Burgundy but don’t forget about aged classed growth Bordeaux of quality like this - just superb. Went well with Roast Beef for Sunday Lunch. — 2 months ago
