One of daughter Georgie’s natural wines. Very perfumed and aromatic particularly being from the Muscat grape also with skin contact. The palate is very “fruit juicy” with low acid. No point in cellaring any of these. — 5 years ago

Kastanienbusch Pinot Noir 2022
Very cool-toned Pfalz Pinot from a great site. Nose of cranberry bog, mid-season cherry, sour cherry, raspberry and beautiful minerality. Palate is all tangy cranberry, sour cherry, freshness, structure and acidity, with velvety tannins that still have bite. Almost Swiss in its restraint. Closed down a bit after air, but serious, pure and site-driven. — 2 months ago

See my previous notes. Sven always works at the edge. Excellent and classic Pinot - the way it should be made. Looks light in the glass. But this carries a serious punch some whole cluster, some cherry 🍒 - but mostly other berries…cranberry and elderberry. Chalky and tart - excellent tannin management. Nose is creamy, opulent and ripe. Background of lean minerals. Nice breadth. Melon and cantelope. So pure. Palate is opulent and ripe with lovely texture and just the right amount of acidity. Very easygoing and delicious. Good concentration and exceptional purity and as it airs out it gets leaner and more acidic. 9.3 for now but can see this going higher. Love how lean and nervy this gets with air. So good. Lime zest and flesh now inflecting on the palate. Zippy, zesty and pure. With air this gains energy and salinity. Amazing intensity. — 4 years ago

Rich nose which is typical for this wine. Honeyed, also some nougat, spice, herbs, so complex. Smell decadent but also has restraint. Tree bark, lemon pith, lanolin. Super complex. Palate is incisive, rich and pure. But it lacks the energy of the 19 ngl. Good acidity and minerality and tons of dry extract. Delicious but again, the 19 crushes it. — 5 years ago

Beautifully lifted Pfalz nose of confectionary citrus, cotton candy, mandarin orange and bright mineral perfume. The palate is juicy, sapid and nicely concentrated, with a touch of richness, good freshness and a long, mineral finish. The acidity could be a tick higher for me, and the wine still feels young and somewhat closed, very much in the mold of the 2017 at this stage. This is a blend of 30% 17 and 70% 18 as Sven thought 17 was too light. Stunning nose. Ethereal sour and sweet mid season cherries. Wild mint and spice. What a palate. Wonderful purity, crunch, sweetness and silky depth. Awesome. Really elegant and lovey persistence. So delicate and lacey. Velvety tannins and just a hint of bitterness on the finish which adds to the appeal. Such sultry fruit. All red fruits all day. Terrific minerality comes through on the finish. Needs a bit of air. I’ll be back.
Wow now the nose rocks. Honeyed, floral, grassy, herbal, so so good. Smells like a scene in nature. Insane florals. Elegant and sweeter fruit. Still the bitterness is there. — 5 years ago

Better than any Red Burgh I ever had. Challenging and not for the faint of heart: Upon opening rough and close to undrinkable with a good amount of volatile acid. That blows off. 20 min in, and then, this shows what it is made of. Importantly- drinking window upon opening - is about 30 min then it starts to fall off!!!!!! Still super tannic needs 5 more years - Anyways an incredible potpourri of flavors - a genius at work - Sven Enderle - the guy takes risk no one else would - ultra dark cherry, mouth puckering tannins, 🇮🇩 Indonesian spices, clove, cinnamon and then Italian - Oregano). At the same time this acidic tension - Mexican lime! ——/Touch bitter, black tea, elderberry. Absolutely world class 9.8 should be a 10 in ~ 2-5 years. Pinot does not get better then this! High 14.1% for this producer. Quite dark and extracted the 2018. A unicorn and often they made just one barrel - 300 bottles. The Pinot clones who knows what they are > 60 years old gnarled and full of moss. I had the privilege to visit them every other year. Sadly they closed shop. — 3 days ago
