Iron and blackberry right off the nose. There is airy clove and black current quality to it that seems to disappear on the tongue. It reminds me of super fine, dark chocolate. The image that comes to mind is a living oak tree— it tastes alive. Pair with pets for a Beauceron, a loyal, intelligent, devoted dog breed that is known for guarding livestock. Sit in front of a fire, drinking this wine while eating some dark chocolate. Or better yet, a hearty filet mignon that you can share with your new Beauceron best friend. — a year ago
This wine poured a dark blood to brick red. It had flavors of cedar, dried fruit, earth, and may be a little bit of graphite. It was very smooth and balanced. It had quite light tannins but some nice acidity. I do not have a lot of experience with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but this was a very good example. It was nice to try an old world GSM blend, and compare it to American versions. It was certainly less fruity and more earthy. It went perfectly with the prime rib we cooked for Christmas Eve dinner. Many thanks to good friend Mike P. For this gift. — 3 years ago
Grenache Shiraz mataro blend. Australia. Really good. — 5 months ago
20 years old and absolutely perfect. Complex knows of every red and black fruit, some red clay and an earthy, mushroomy umami. Shared with the friend I bought it from. Well worth the wait — 3 years ago
I was disappointed by the amarone before so I popped up this one to find a great reliable pour for the last evening of our guest and best friend from back home (and yours truly last evening before a day off).
What comes to mind is umami. The nose is full on cedar, cigar box, tar, black currant and soy sauce. The palate is massive, wide, grainy, silky, tannic in the rear with a grain, some chocolate and that umami, meat sauce touch that lingers for a very long moment. Bordeaux grand cru classé like you would like it to be every single time. 🥺 — 5 months ago
