Rebuli

Cartizze Spumante Superiore Prosecoo

Very pale straw with pale green highlights and elegant tiny bubbles. Shy but inviting nose of honeysuckle and Bosc pear. Bright palate yields honeysuckle nectar, ripe pear, and a hint of flinty mineral mid palate to finish. That Glera darkness suggests itself but never fully shows, making this one of the most delightful Prosecco experiences one will ever have. Valdobbiadene is the top level of Prosecco and Cartizze is the pinnacle of Valdo. And it shows. I dare say this even works as an alternative to NV Champagne (blanc de blancs, of course). Pair with salads and pungent cheeses (I’m having pear and bleu cheese on butter lettuce) as a starter, or with a main course of light fish or poultry. Brunch is understood. Drink it when you buy it. — 3 years ago

Agrapart & Fils (Pascal Agrapart)

Vénus Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay 2014

The weekend upon us and we're hosting another dinner party for a couple of friends. Tonight's theme was Rhone wine, so good stuff on deck.

Couldn't get to notes; Entertaining guests first 😉.
Starting off with a bang! Paired with Gougère.

Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Deep ruby color. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, cocoa and espresso… also a haunting aroma of something I can put my finger on… Fantastic dark fruit on the palate, bright blue fruit in the middle and black tea finish.

Made some sliders with garlic aioli and truffle Parmesan fries.

Grandi Annate Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2015

9.8

Grand Annate 2015. Best years of Sangiovese from the best parts of the best vineyards. 4 in 2015. Brownish ruby coloration. Dark berry, balsamic, minerals, vanilla, strawberry, and distinctive terroir that the other montepulcianos seemed to have. On the palate, rich and full bodied, sweet plum, espresso and cocoa powder on a long finish. One of the best 100% Sangiovese wines I’ve ever had. — 3 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Straight shooting Napa Cabernet. Fruit forward and good acidity. Medium finish. Pleasant. Eric Benoît. I drank this decanted over three days. Definitely recommend giving lots of airtime to settle down before drinking. — 3 years ago

Château Meyney

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Vintage 2019 | For the cellar | Beautiful creamy smell with cassis, laurel and vaguely leather. Silky on the tongue with very ripe tannins. A sexy taste, só young. | With beef and mushrooms — 3 years ago

A great wine to lay down for sure. We used to have bottles all the way back to '83.

2019's are out?! Still trying to catch up on the 2018's. Meyney's been on a hot streak the last decade.

Domaine Tempier

Cuvée Spéciale Cabassaou Bandol Mourvedre Blend 1995

Way more elegant than I was expecting. Dark fruit, roasted coffee, leather. Firing right out of the bottle. Very good. — 3 years ago

The wine is made by both Francoise Peschon and Lisa Drinkward. Peschon is the former winemaker at Araujo vineyards in Napa, while Drinkward is the wife of Les Behrens (of Behrens Family Winery). In fact, the wine is made at Behrens Family Winery on Spring Mountain. Name means between two mothers.

Valeirano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2017

Soft in the mouth, but still containing jammy fruit with brambles and nettles. Not a long finish like other Nebbiolo. — 3 years ago
