Château Lafite Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Perfect balance. A bit more fruit than the Margaux but much more stable over time, good throughout best after 30 minutes of decanting — 3 years ago

Arnot-Roberts

Fellom Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Hands-down one of the best California Cabernet I’ve had in a very, very long time. I remember tasting with Arnot and Roberts a few years ago in New York at a trade tasting and being bowled over by how typical their syrah was to a Saint Joseph, but with this gorgeously fresh fruit.. Quite frankly to me what put CA wine on the map in the first place.

This Cabernet showed everything I like about great Cabernet. It was powerful, it was seductive, it was rich but balanced and fresh and showed all the classic hallmarks that the grape is known for. The slightest note of pyrazine folded in perfectly with the cassis, black cherry, and currant fruits. The palate had energy and complexity, generosity and a super long finish.

Heitz Cellar

Trailside Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Mary H
9.2

Savory with aromas of soy sauce, oyster sauce, salted plums, and a whiff of rubber tire. Well-rounded and complete in youth. Three years barrel aging + 1 year bottle aging. — 3 years ago

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Mouthwatering. Probably the most interesting sauv blanc I’ve tried (I haven’t tried many).

Next time with fish. Or lemony pasta.

Nikolaihof

Hefeabzug Wachau Grüner Veltliner 2018

Such a classic & so full of grunerosity: canned green beans, butter lettuce and loads of lime on the nose. On the palate, more of the same, plus some underripe tropical fruit and a pleasant hint of citrus pith. It’s the texture that gets me on this wine—almost inappropriately supple. Opened last night but think it’s drinking even better on day 2.

Stein

Rosé Secco 2020

Well balanced, acidic but not overly tart, with a nice, balanced effervescence. The nose is forward, but not pungent, with a nice slight bubblyness, and notes of strawberries, raspberries, and slight mineral notes. The flavor is VERY fruit forward, with notes of strawberries, raspberry, light passion fruit, prickly pear, and sweet rhubarb, with a slight earthy almost vegetal finish. Very tasty, easy to drink, with great flavor! — 3 years ago

Monastero Suore Cistercensi

Coenobium Lazio Bianco Trebbiano Blend 2019

Lovely skin contact blend—honey, blossoms, medium acid. Natural style without the annoying funk. Very well made, just missing a bit of complexity that would take it to the next level. Delicious. — 3 years ago

@Severn Goodwin @Ira Schwartz 🙏🏼 the unsexy backstory is we were too lazy to clear off the dinner table of laptops etc and ate off the kitchen bar, tarting it up with a candle 😂

@Andrew Schirmer @Severn Goodwin I thought you were at the monastery with the nuns who made it😁

Eisele Vineyard

Altagracia Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Well made “second” wine, this a crowd pleaser with statue. Smooth velvet entry with soft “powder style” tannins, nice integrated wood and of course the light tobacco i the mouth. Somewhere it brings me to the style of Pontet Canet, and this is at the age of six a wine to watch. Big 👏👏 for the role of the Petit Verdot and CF in this wine, it gives the wine a nice kick. — 3 years ago

Descendientes de José Palacios

Pétalos Bierzo Mencía 2019

What a terrific Mencía “New World” red. For wine geeks out there the Spanish wine project of Descendientes de J. Palacios is a must read. However, if you couldn’t care less about that side of the story (and that’s way OK) simply pull a cork on their “everyday wine” and enjoy. You’re in for a thrill. (A thirty-minute decant served at cellar temperature is the way to go.) — 3 years ago
