Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2023

Somm David T
9.6

You would know you’re drinking a good vintage Grand Cru blind. It’s stunning.

Just crazy beautiful. It’s so good, it’s hard to find flaws. Something you want to drink all the time but at nearly $450 a bottle, that’s for the wealthy.

Perfect viscosity and mouthfeel. Meyer lemons, green apple, lime pulp, pineapple juice, soft white citrus blend, hints of white stone fruits, kiwi, tropical melons, gentle white spice, chalky powder, wet limestone powder, gentle volcanics, sea spray, light sea fossils, spring & yellow flowers, grand acidity, refined, glorious, perfect two minute finish that lands gently on everything above.

Best white burgundy I’ve had in some time.

Picked up a mix of 2023 Puligny and Chassagne 6 pk offerings based on the buzz but have been too busy to "research." Seems like I need to reprioritize posthaste.

La Pièce-sous-le-Bois Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru Red Blend 2022

I prefer Pernots Pulignys, this is kinda one-dimensional, or maybe it got drank before it had a chance to do anything. — 5 months ago

I’ve had a couple of 22 white burgs recently that seemed super tight.

Grands Vins de Bourgogne Puligny-Montrachet Chardonnay 2024

This Puligny-Montrachet stayed true to its heritage. Mineral and chalk my on the nose. Well rounded on the palate with a crisp start and light acidic follow through that pairs perfectly with Thanksgiving appetizers. Vive la France — 2 days ago

Pommard Les Noizons Pinot Noir 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2023 “Noizons” pours a bright ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is youthful with abundant bright and tart red fruit with red florals: raspberry, strawberry, roses, mixed spices, and a combination of organic and inorganic earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A very pretty wine that is very young. I expect it to flesh out over the next five years and be quite lovely through 2038. — 3 months ago

Beaune Clos du Dessus des Marconnets Pinot Noir 2023

From a tiny, walled Monopole of the estate. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The Clos du Dessus des Marconnets (Pernot) pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with a mix of tart and ripe mostly red fruit: strawberry, raspberry, cherry, red flowers, green herbs, some forest floor and subtle warm spices. On the palate, wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A lovely and utterly classic expression of Bourgogne Rouge. Drink now through 2033+. — 6 months ago

2023 vintage. Well-made, subtle and pleasant. Medium body. Needs another year in the bottle before starting to stretch the wings. 9.10.25. — 3 months ago

Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay 2017

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours and it needed it. The 2017 Bienvenue Bâtard-Montrachet pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, this was initially quite shy but after a couple of hours, the nose exploded into a veritable cornucopia: apples, pineapple, passion fruit, stone fruit, lemon curd, honeysuckle, flint, gentle warm spices and a mix of limestone minerals and gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with a chalky texture. A banger. Drink now with patience; better after 2027 and through 2042. — 5 months ago
