Classico Superiore Verdicchio dei Castelli Di Jesi 2020

Intense white with a wide profile ranging from intense orchard fruits through nuttiness ending in a minty mineral finish. Good acidity as well. Time brought some more complexity but this one van go on for several more years. — a month ago

Montmains Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2018

Light straw gold; nice nose of yellow fruits, even including dried apricot; ripe and rich in the fullish mouth with orchard fruit but barely enough acidity to be Chablis. — 4 months ago

Egly-Ouriet

Brut Tradition Grand Cru Champagne Blend

Egly-Ouriet. Always so lovely. Always so thrilling.

A medium old gold color in the glass with pleasing perlage. Everything here is so very sensual and seductive beginning with the nose. As usual, toasted brioche aromas are prevalent here. Orchard fruits with a generous oak influence. Green apples and dusty libraries with an added kick of quince.

So young but so precocious and inviting. Powerful and full bodied and just so engrossing. The elegance is there, as always. As is the complexity despite the relative youth. Shes a polished and generous lover that can’t help but enchanting you. The freshness of the fruit on the palate is amazing. Slivered almonds, red and green apples, and vanilla brioche. The finish is, of course, long, powerful, and glorious. Let these sit for a few more years because she has so much more to give. And you want it too.

Lieux Dits Les Carelles Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Disg. 2/14…Always my favorite of the Lieux-Dits and without question one of the very best Blanc de Blancs Champagnes on the planet, it’s particularly special to have with some bottle age. It’s stunning today, rich and powerful with crazy depth to its layers with a deep, complex core of caramelized orchard fruit, roasted nuts, old rum barrels and candied white flowers, all seamlessly integrated. The palate is generous and detailed, with racy acids, waves of saline laced, chalky Le Mesnil minerals and a finish that stays with you. A BdB benchmark for my tastes. — 3 months ago

Les Maillons Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs Champagne Pinot Noir 2016

In a great spot. 2016 base. Starting to develop some savory and earthy elements with lots of orchard fruit. Still upside here. — 10 months ago

Éloge Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

Ming L
9.2

A nice contrast to the ‘17 Right Bank, this left bank blend is rich and supple, with notes of black currant, cassis, cedar, cinnamon, forest floor, and violet. Warm and velvety with sleek acidity. Delicious tannins. I usually prefer the Right Bank, in particular for its QPR. But on this occasion, this left bank shines. — 9 months ago

Anjou Chenin Blanc 2018

Stunning orchard fruit mixed with solid salinity and density. Absolutely amazing acidity keeps things lively. Starting to show a touch of secondary: nutty notes and a hint of lanolin. — a year ago
