San Valentino Sangiovese Blend 2019

Poured into a decanter about 30 minutes prior to service and enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2019 San Valentino pours a deep ruby/purple color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and a decent amount of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with sensational notes of Bing cherry, plum, licorice, Palo Santo, varnish, balsamico, exotic spices, and a mix of dried under brush and earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose . The finish is long and there is no shortage of excitement. A wine that simultaneously makes you think and fills you with joy. Drink now through 2034. — 20 days ago

Pagliaro Montefalco Sagrantino 2019

A more leaner rendition of this varietal, but in a good way. Nose displays clean cinnamon and toast. Palate is broad and expansive, yet light on its feet. A kiss of vanilla pod and black fruits conclude an excellent presentation. This is an intellectual wine.

@Ron R brother…where do I begin! Paolo Bea is a hero of mine and his son Giampiero is now carrying the torch. There are others that are doing things in a somewhat similar fashion…but that should require further discussion.

nuns made this wine! with paolo bea!! kind of reductive, nutty, a little appley, almost a sherry quality but solid acidity to hold it together. — 8 months ago

Lapideus Umbria Bianco Trebbiano 2019

Opened and decanted shortly before dinner; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2019 pours a very rustic looking, deep straw bordering gold color; medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes bruised and dried fruits: dried apricot, bruised yellow apple, candied oranges, yellow flowers, herbaceous (rosemary?), and old wood. And yet there’s a freshness there that is undeniable. On the palate, the wine is dry with low tannin and medium + acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is very long. Another vintage of Lapideus and another beauty from Giampiero. These wines make me think and each time I get to enjoy one, I’m reminded of why wine can be so special. Drink now through 2029.
