Fronsac Merlot 2016

Delicious Merlot from Bordeaux, enjoyed with seared tuna at The Banks, Back Bay, Boston — 5 months ago

Les Halos de Jupiter

Côtes du Rhône Grenache Blend

This is an absolutely crowd pleaser GSM out of the Côtes du Rhône Appellation. The composition of this wine is a blend of a very old Grenache at 75%, Mourvèdre at 15% &
Syrah at 10%.
All these grapes are sourced from Signargues, Cairanne and Rasteau, which have an eco-environment and well delineated terroirs from both banks of the Rhône River. Everything combined translates into an exceptional expression of Grenache-driven, rich, powerful yet subtle and generous on the palate with a compelling finesse and extremely balanced.
Hard to have only one glass, cheers!

Herdade do Mouchão

Vinho Regional Alicante Bouschet 2011

Everything about this wine screams uncool in our industry in the present era: high alcohol (14%), heavy extraction, generous use of new oak (presumably), ripe + chewy tannins, flavors that shout rather than whisper and high praise from Robert Parker (cue Elaine or Carlton Banks’ dance moves). Maybe it’s my 90’s nostalgia or maybe I’ve been drinking too much vintage port these days 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it all works beautifully here: intense aromas of licorice, pepper, cedar, black plum, wet tar, dried tobacco, cranberries, cassis, dried violets. And this is only the beginning... A blast of macerated red and black berries on the palate, held together by a solid acid backbone, followed by a long finish laced with black olive, dried tobacco, mocha and mineral. Hedonistic. Three cheers for Alicante Bouschet! — 5 years ago

Bricco Delle Viole Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Needs more time or a long decant. Tannins are still showing prominently.
30 min decant, minimum aromas. Traditional style. Cherry, floral violet, and smoke charcoal. Paired perfectly for pizza night in the outer banks

Château Du Gazin

Canon-Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Enough age to bring the fruit intensity down a notch, & man that’s some good fruit- emphasis on the cassis & blackberries. Usually not a mega fan of Bordeaux, but this fit the bill for a shared bottle with friends, drink outside on the banks of the Hudson. — 3 years ago

Montagne-St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

I also have a weak spot for Pomerol’s and right banks from St. Emilion. This find delivers on that Merlot inspired approach. Subtle. Expressive. — 5 years ago

Concha y Toro

Don Melchor Puente Alto Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Foot of the Andes Mountains on banks of Maipo River in Upper Maipo Valley, 650 meters above sea level, vineyard dates back to mid-19th century, when first pre-phylloxera French varieties were brought to Chile, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits & mineral notes, a blend of 92% Cab Sauv & 8% Cab Franc, aged for 15 month in French oak (65% new). On the palate flavors cherry & blackberry with powerful tannins, long finish, very tight, ending with mineral and tobacco notes. Needs ten years. Tasting Sample! — 6 years ago

Hells Canyon

Deer Slayer Syrah 2004

A 20 year old Syrah from Idaho! Yes Idaho and scoring it a conservative 9.5! Amazing. Still super vibrant, deep dark cherry infused with mulberry spice and lifted with floral notes of violet, sage and jasmine. Incredible. From Hells Canyon, oldest winery in Idaho established in early 1980’s on the banks of the mighty Snake River. — a year ago

Split Rail Winery

Snake River Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Steak night on vacation in the outer banks.
Having an Idaho vs Napa cab comparison. We went to Idaho for a wedding in June and purchased some local wines.
2014 Split Rail Winery vs 2013 Chappellet Napa Valley cab.
This is massive at 15.6% abv with equally big blueberry, cassis, smoke, and touches of lavender. Very surprised by how well this wine was! This was $33 vs the $65 Chappellet price point.

Perfect for a 90 degree day on vacation in the outer banks. So refreshing! Sun dried strawberries, slightly tart lime zest, and watermelon. Mouth watering sea water salinity and bright acidity makes this amazing! This is probably the best rose I have had this year! — 8 years ago
