Yalumba

The Virgilius Eden Valley Viognier 2018

See previous note 105 weeks ago. Australia’s premier example of a straight Viognier. Notes of Apricot and Honeysuckle. Quite luscious on the palate with low acid. Finishes with a skinnsy bitter note which is quite refreshing. — 2 days ago

@Bob McDonald, I’ve never heard of this wine, and I have visited Yalumba twice (albeit about 35 years ago) — how large is the production of this wine?

@Doug Powers Yalumba had been trialling Viognier for a while before releasing it commercially. They consider this as their premium white wine. I wouldn’t think it is a huge production but Dr Google may have the answers.

Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2020

A little shy at first but really opens up and shows after a couple hours of air. Classic Santa Cruz Mtns Pinot. Earthy. A touch candied. Long finish. Pretty wine. 👍🏼 — 3 months ago

Always solid! Didn’t realize this local place had BYOB on Monday’s, although I can’t recall the last time I drank on a Monday. Classic bell pepper with cherries and subtle oak. Nice texture and tannins. — 10 days ago

Every once in a while, the second label of Mount Eden (from the old Cinnabar property) nails it.

Hill of Grace Vineyard Shiraz 2018

Fantastic cult wine that I’ve had the pleasure of trying a couple of times now. Lives up to the hype. Amazing in all aspects. Big but super pretty and just keeps rewarding you with greatness every time you return to you glass. — 4 months ago

Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2020

2020 vintage. A fave CA chard and producer. Medium-medium heavy body. Tasting slightly more tropical and advanced with less acidity than usual. Still absolutely delicious tho. Would like to retaste and reevaluate in 5-6 months tho. Based on 30 vintages of tasting this particular wine, betting it reconciles any tawdry, fleeting concerns that occupy my compromised palate and right quick. 01.22.25. — 6 months ago

St. Eden Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2009

+1 hour decant(some fine/cloudy sediment). A splendid still deep dark ruby red color. On the nose: brambly dark cherry, mocha Java, worn leather, floral, cloves. Taste: silky, layered, savory mouthfeel wine with dark plum/cherry, dark currants, dark chocolate, graphite, and a peppery dried herb, dusty tannin long finish. YUM! Should drink well for more years. — 5 days ago

Diesel/petrol, lovely Riesling fruit, I know this is way too young to drink, but the bottle looked like it wanted to be drunk today!! — a month ago
