Not always my favourite on the table, but always solid. Dassai's like the Penfolds of sake - producing high quality beverages at a scale that's accessible to the multitude. In 2013, Asahi Shuzo, Dassai's brewery, sold 1.14 million bottles of sake, which is peanuts compared to what Treasury does, but no mean feat in a struggling sake industry. For me, Dassai is at least large enough to have reached little ol' Kuching, and to have been one of my first encounters with a Junmai Daiginjo.
I've always found Dassai's quite rich and it's no different here. Exotic nose of melons, pineapple, candied fruits even. Palate's like a fruit punch, plush but toned back by herbaceous notes and some acidity. Clean, lengthy finish. Very approachable. The best drink on the table this time. — 5 years ago
Reminiscing about this amazing value Super Tuscan we had at Officina last week during restaurant week in DC.

Restaurant week at Officina and a perfect wine for our three course meal. Thank you Natalie for the recommendation. Deep ruby red in appearance. Took some time to open up on the nose but showed layers of mocha, floral, touch of minerals, blue and black fruits and spices. Medium tannins (5.5/10) with balanced acidity and a medium plus body. Plush Merlot definitely comes through in the mid palate with black currants, black cherries, chocolate, espresso and a touch of earthiness. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2023.

Crazy good wine for only $60.00 on a wine list. Made up of 50% Sangiovese with the remainder made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, making this a true Super Tuscan Blend. All the Sangiovese is aged in stainless steel while the rest are aged in barriques. This wine is from an area in the southern part of Tuscany called Maremma, more specifically Upper Maremma in the Colline Metallifare zone. Need to find some more of this IGT. Label is designed by Raffaele De Rosa.

Bought at Kauai Costco today…tag said 93 rating by one of the big raters. I wouldn’t score it that high at a food truck place in Koloa town. Drank out of cardboard coffee cups. If I had my nice stemware it probably would have scored higher. Under $20. It was OK to open our bottle at the dining tables. No adult beverages sold at any of the 3 food trucks. — a year ago
If you can get an organically grown wine from France to the US that is fresh and lively on the palate with no trace of funk, then kudos to you Madame Cartier and sons. This baby is all fruit: blueberry, black cherry, currants. Well worth a detour to southwestern France for this well-balanced blend of Grenache, Syrah and Cabernet. — 4 years ago

On medication and can't partake of alcohol, so finding new non- alcoholic beverages.
Nice lager, similar to a Stella in aroma and flavour. Crisp and flavourful.

Happy Friday to all! 😃

Celebrating finishing three weeks of work getting our rental ready, the 49ers win (Sofia was on edge that they would lose another close game last minute) and settling into the season.
The Ruinart is Sofia’s favorite N/V Rosé champagne...at least tonight!
I do enjoy it for its, deeper, dark, rich fruits of; black cherries, cherries, strawberries with whip cream, raspberries, summer season, ripe & juicy watermelon, touch of tangerine, citrus, sea fossils, grey volcanic minerals, hints of white spice, round, crisp, penetrating chalkiness, bread, notes of gummy candies and pink roses pedals. The acidity is fresh & bright. The rich, well balanced & polished finish is delicious.
Happy season everyone. Hope you are enjoying it along with your favorite wines and or beverages. Cheers! 🍾🥂🍷🎅⛄️❄️🎁🎄

An excellent occasional tipple in winter. Glenmorangie are the masters of maturing in oak barrels which previously held other alcoholic beverages. They even mature in barrels that once held Sauternes. This Lasanta spent ten years maturing in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks before being matured for a further 2 years in Oloroso and PX Sherry casks from Jerez in Spain. This gives this single malt Scotch a sweet smoky slightly burnt nuance. — a year ago
