In 1990, Daniel & Florence Cathiard now own estate. Blend of 60% Cab Sauv & 40% Merlot, dark berry aromas, herbs and earthy spice. On the complex palate flavors of cherry and currant with pepper, tobacco and cacao notes. Soft ripe tannins, long finish ending with an earthy mineral character. — 12 days ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over three days. Best on Day 3 but slayed from Day 1. The 2021 “P’tit Max” sources fruit from Guy Breton’s oldest vines in Les Charmes; some nearing a century old. It can often be one of the harder expressions from the Gang of Four to find. The wine pours a pale ruby color with a slightly hazy, transparent core and a watery rim. Medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, so fresh! Almost like a spring rain shower. The fruit is so beautiful: strawberry, watermelon, kiwi, red flowers mixed with some anise and wet asphalt. On the palate, winsome structure with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and I want to spread it over toast. This is drinking so well in its youth but this undoubtedly has a long life ahead. If anyone has multiples, I would recommend enjoying one now and cellaring other bottles to be enjoyed over the next 15+ years. — 9 months ago

History of Chapoutier family dates back to the early 19th century when current owner Michel Chapoutier’s great-, great-, great-grandfather Marius purchased estate & famous l’Hermitage vineyards. Medium Ruby with aromas of rich red/black fruits and spice, 16 months in 25% new French oak. On the palate raspberry, cherry & black currant flavors with notes of oak. Soft dusty tannins, well balanced ending with fruit, spice and cedar. Very nice! I wouldn’t age long, great now! — 2 years ago

Château dates back to 1560, records suggesting back to 12th century making it one of oldest estates in the heart of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC region near Avignon. Ruby with aromas of red fruit. Blend of about even amounts Grenache, Syrah, Mouvèdre & splash of mostly Cinsault. Aromas of berry fruits, oak & sweet spice. On the palate flavors of raspberry, cherry & blackberry, hints of oak, leather, vanilla spice & black pepper, aged in 20% new oak, complex & elegant, fine soft tannins, long finish, will age well. — 7 days ago

Medium Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits with earthy herb notes, aged for 12 months on oak. On the palate flavors of cherry, strawberry and raspberry with sweet vanilla spice. I hade the 2001 Selección Especial a couple months back at this same restaurant but this one is even better. Holds up very nice for such a mature wine. Berries, dried orange peal, christmas cake, coffee, olives, potting soils, herbs. This bottle was kept i a cool 12th century medieval cellar for almost 20 years, that and some extra magic. Antinori family of Florence, one of the world's oldest & most distinguished wine producers, lived in Tuscany since the 14th century. One of the first "Super Tuscans," blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cab Sauv & 5% Cab Franc. Deep Ruby with aromas of black berry fruit aromas with dried herbs and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with cacao, tar, mushroom, vanilla and spice. Fine graceful tannins, long finish, well balanced, savory ending with oaky and earthy mineral tones. The origins of the Damilano family dates back to over a century ago, when Guiseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, started to grow and make wine from his own grapes. Medium Ruby with aromas of fresh berry fruits and generous spice. On the palate this medium body wine shows flavors of juicy cherry and blackberry with notes of citrus and vanilla spice. Light tannin structure, lively acidity, medium ending with fruit finish. Nice value. Drink now, consistent, no aging benefit. — 9 months ago

Château La Louvière has many fascinating facets. The sumptuous architecture of the château building dates from the late 18th century, but winegrowing here goes back more than 700 years. The first vines were planted circa 1310, although modern winemaking dates from the 17th century and was handed down by able monks from the Carthusian monastery in Bordeaux, who had acquired considerable talent as viticulturists and winemakers.
