2016 vintage. Cantemerle is always a good idea if you want value for money. Like many left bank Bordeaux in this great vintage, it tends to close down a bit, so give it some time in the glass or decant. The nose slowly develops after an hour, with a mix of black and red fruit, classy cedar notes, and flowers. As usual, it's all about elegance, but it doesn't lack power either. Still needs a few more years to reveal all its complexity, but very good already. Ab. 13%. — 13 days ago

Christmas Day. Another wonderful experience with 1989 Bordeaux, this time La Lagune from the Haut-Médoc, a wine that is particularly ageworthy and on this occasion absolutely singing. Fresh, sappy fruit and youthful vigour on the palate, this was a clean, pristine bottle and utterly drinkable – it just about lasted throughout dinner. — 24 days ago

Quite bright medium ruby , ruby pink rim . Quite elegant and reserved , some red cherry, violet , summer fruits , scorched earth , touch of spice . On the palate quite elegant also , summer fruits, blackberry , blackcurrant , red plum . Good balanced acidity , herbal touches on the medium length , saline tinged finish . Quite polished but still grippy tannins . This is showing well , especially with food , but has a relatively long future , from now and over the next 5-10 years.
