Château Haut Grand Champ

Château Haut-Brion

Premier Grand Cru Classé Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

First growth Bordeaux with Christmas Dinner! (Thanks to my wonderful Son-in-Law). Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Merlot (23%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Dark Ruby color with a slight rust colored rim. Extremely savory on both the nose and palate. Aromas of charcoal, graphite, unsweetened cocoa and black cherry. Flavors of tobacco, bakers chocolate, roasted herbs and a bit of black berry/cherry fruit. Very long and oaky/earthy finish. Well structured, full bodied and very complex. Soft tannins. Quite a treat! Thanks so much, Petey! — 3 days ago

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Oh what a winner!
Fine & elegant and with such enticing aromatics. The nose just pulls you in with ripe damson plums, some dark cherry, dark dry earth, just a hint of cedar wood but there’s also a ripe, juicy exotic note of ripe mango. Fresh, vibrant and rich at the same time. Seductive!
Very polished on the palate. Smooth, velvety juicy tannins, so finely grained, beautifully balanced and with nice depth & length. Juicy, fresh, very elegant a yet so drinkable!
Nothing profound and yet - a textbook Bordeaux Merlot that you always hope for.
Delish!

Château Smith Haut Lafitte

Grand Cru Classé de Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

Vintage 2007 | A treat. This Graves wine rocks each time I taste it. Mesmerizing smell. Lots of character and fruit in a taste that still shows tannins after 17 years. Very good effort in what is seen as a difficult year. Paired with truffed hamburger. — 15 days ago

Château Sociando-Mallet

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Opens up very slowly, keeping a very youthful appearance. Shy black currant leaf, fresh black currants, a bit tobacco leaf, a smoky, earthy note, a faint whiff of orange peel. All interwoven, subtle, and yet, a bit underwhelming.
The wow happens on the palate - smooth and so polished… more silk than velvet.
Cool black currant, a touch of 100% cocoa chocolate, a bit of espresso savouriness
Not really rich nor broad… but the precision & depth are amazing. Harmonious, self assured, elegant. A finish that goes on forever
If only the nose would be as magical as the palate - what a grand wine this would be

Had the ‘89 HB last weekend…based on your notes above, it was a bit more elegant, yet just as complex. A stunner on a table of worthy wines.

Château Haut-Bailly

Pessac-Léognan Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Inky red orange with currants on the nose and palate. Opened up a couple of hours after uncorking with some sweet coconut shavings on top of the red fruits. Will continue to develop. — 7 months ago
