Chardonnay D'oro

Domaine Roulot

Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2022

There’s nothing basic about this Bourgogne Blanc!

It’s absolutely lovely. With elegant notes of fresh white peach, nectarine, yellow apple, apricot, lemon peel, citrus blossom, chalk, wet slate, salinity, and sapidity; also, delicate cream, flintiness, and cheese rind notes and perhaps a touch of reduction, presenting as struck match. The palate is dry, with medium alcohol (13%), medium (+) acidity.

It fermented with wild yeasts and aged 11 months in a combination of barrels and stainless steel, followed by an addition 7 months in stainless steel tanks.

This wine has verve and vibrancy and is positively delicious.

Cheers to beautiful Bourgogne Blanc wines to write home about!!

Comtes de Champagne Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Chardonnay 2013

Classic Comtes lemon and brioche, this bottle seemed a little less ebullient than another bottle a few weeks ago, but still very expressive. — 16 days ago

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2015

From magnum this wine was fresh, crisp, mineral, with delightful aromatics reminiscent of citrus. While perfect for the meal being consumed, I was more measured in my assessment of a score! — 13 days ago

Domaine Coche-Dury (J.F. Coche Dury)

Meursault Chardonnay 2017

2017 vintage. Lemon zest and saline nose with toasty oak hovering about. Medium body with striking, brilliant yellow Chartreuse color. Initially and throughout, the wine was as taut as piano wire. Decanted 5 minutes after opening and tasted 30 mins after the decant. That toasty oak char came to play along with plenty of acidity. Quite the mouthful of wine currently. A tad tempestuous and in definite need of a mandatory, half-decade time out before being allowed to participate at recess again. 12.09.24. — 11 days ago

Light gold color. Apples, camomile, and a little lemongrass on the nose, which is very expressive. Similar flavors on the palate. Well balanced wine. Give a few minutes to open up. Very nice. — 19 days ago

Continuing quest to taste as many 22’s as possible.

Beautiful honeysuckle notes, Meyer lemon and spring flowers on the nose.

The palate show a good presence of Meyer lemon right at the top. Butterscotch notes, honeysuckle-honey comb, apricots, yellow peach, ripe, syrupy pineapple, cream, slivered almonds, saline, flinty notes, limestone marl, toast, some soft white spices, lots of moist to mushy chalk, yellow & spring flowers, excellent, round acidity and a well made, elegant, round, lush, finish that lasts 90 seconds landing on spice & minerals.

This will merit another point of two with appropriate age but still hard to justify $240 a bottle. The strong lemon presence needs time to calm.

Les Chétillons Cuvée Spéciale Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay 2010

One of the 1001 wines. The brilliance of Mesnil is on show in Les Chetillons - let’s not forget that two of the most prestigious Champagnes are from here too, Salon and Krug’s Clos de Mesnil. This is much more reasonably priced than those two. When poured this has a very fine bead with voluminous mousse. The colour of bright straw yellow. The palate had broad developed notes with mushroom and toasted hazelnuts in the aromas. After a while a delightful note of poached pear. — a month ago
