Clos du Val Wine Co.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1975

Clear and brilliant , medium ruby garnet with a light garnet ruby rim . This is showing quite a lot of tobacco and , sous bois , some dusty cassis , sweet red cherry , red plum , coffee and beef jus . After a while a touch of old wood and grafite . Quite intense and certainly alive . On the palate this is elegant and with more dusty, coffee tinged sweet red fruit , red plum , cherry. Dusty cassis. Good density and really elegant acidity and fine , resolved tannins . Good length with some coffee and cocoa on the finish . Mature obviously but showed well and opened up over an hour or so in decanter . Drink now and over the next 5-10 years perhaps , though won’t improve . — 5 days ago

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

S.L.V. Estate Grown Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1990

Opened a couple hours prior and served double-blind. The wine pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core moving towards a slightly tawny rim; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of desiccated and ripe fruits: cassis, brambles, pipe tobacco, old leather bound books, dried mixed flowers, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and rich. Initial conclusion is this is a Bordeaux-style blend from the United States or France but I felt this leaned more towards the quality of the fruit. So I called Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from the United States, California, Napa Valley, 1986. Whoa…just about nailed it. This is showing very well. Drink now through 2030. — a month ago

@Tom Casagrande it’s always risky to call something that old when most people don’t bring these types of wines to tasting group…but you gotta trust the evidence in the glass. If I’m wrong, then I learned something 😊

Colgin Cellars

IX Estate Napa Valley Red Blend 2011

2011 vintage. Opened but not decanted. Tasted 2.5 hours and 3.5 hours after opening. Medium-heavy body. Some powerful chunkiness afoot but wouldn't categorize the wine as rustic. Balanced mix of fruit, earth and mineral. No rush to crush. 02.22.25. — 15 days ago

A well made if undisguised Napa Chardonnay with notes of mostly ripe stone fruits with touch of tropical fruits and vanilla. Creamy texture and balanced acidity lead to a smooth, lingering finish. — 2 days ago

Ramey Wine Cellars

Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2023

2023 vintage. Their entry-level Chard juice not too shabby. Slightly fleshy. Hints of tropicalia without boarding that ship with three suitcases and/or a trunk. Ajax-strength acidity to clean up any spills. Teases many possibilities but afraid of committing to any specific one. Still...less than $30 USD resto cost on two cases. Sold. 02.26.25. — 11 days ago

Artemis Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Cabernet Franc, and half a % each of Malbec and Merlot, aged 15 months in 33% new French oak, 51% of fruit from Atlas Peak District, deep Ruby with aromas of vibrant dark fruit, sweet spice and herbs. On the palate flavors of cherry and blackberry with tobacco spice, toasty oak, cinnamon and floral notes. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, spice, cedar, mocha and mineral character, Nice, should age well. — a month ago
