Another solid vintage of this Côtes du Rhône staple. Blend of Grenache (60%) and Syrah (40%). Dark garnet color with ruby highlights. Aromas of ripe black fruit, violets, dried rose petals and roasted meat. Flavors of ripe red and black cherry/raspberry/plum fruit, savory dried herbs and spices and a bit of black licorice. Hint of earth and bramble on the long dry finish. No real noticeable oak aging. Fruit forward and fresh. Velvety tannins and medium-plus body. Exceptional quality and consistency for the price. Perfect Passover wine- pop n pour, extracted enough for those in the crowd who require power in their wine. More on the black cherry & blackberry spectrum. Clean, svelte, uncomplicated but not simple either. Enough cut too, perhaps moreso than previous vintages. Plus the bottle is like a Cadillac (well, like a luxury car, you choose. [60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, 5% Carignan, 5% Mourvedre] Still very grapey and primary, I actually tasted this wine in barrel in May of 2019 at the Chateau, and it tastes like it’s barely evolved since then, great acid, ripe, round tannins, long, lingering finish, this should easily age another 10 years based on my history of tasting this cuvée since the 1998!! — 4 months ago
