@Peter van den Besselaar, did you notice any newish oak? About 10-15 years I bought a Chamte Cigale VV (after having much older vintages), the wine I bought had GREAT reviews, but I just despise oodles of new oak in my CdPs!?!?
@Doug Powers I did some research. 70% of the wine was kept on stainless steel and 30% in new barrels for 12 months. The wine was balanced with well integrated wood. We even dit not notice it. Making choices for more or less wood seems very difficult to me. Perhaps you had the wine when the vintner was still searching for the perfect recipe? But certainly you might try it again.

So excellent for a villages level. 70-yr old vines. Perfumed, spiced nose and rich velvety red fruits. Bright cherry. Lovely acidity. Firm tannic structure. Just great! Less complex than the 1er cru (which I’m saving for Christmas Day) but equally enjoyable. — 14 days ago

Medium rubi robe, very clean and crystal clear. Nose of dark cherries and spices, anise. Very polished tannins, good density and complexity, medium bodied, very drinkable but oh so long and so young.
