100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 1 year in new French and American oak barrels, while I get the Barossa fruit feel, this also reminds, at this age, of 1980s Napa/Sonoma Cabs, close to mature, very well-balanced, complex, long, lingering finish, terrific Barossa Cabernet!! Purchased at Henschke in 1989 (my first and only visit) and shipped home via a now-defunct import/shipping company in Alameda, California (I also bought some 1986 Mt. Still trying to catch up with all of the Henschke wines we tasted a week ago at Spicer’s Peak Lodge. This was a classic Eden Valley Riesling from Henschke’s own Eden Valley vineyard. Aromatics of Lime and talc with a note of jasmine. Stephen again emphasised the quality of the 2023 vintage. Cyril was instrumental in developing the Henschke Riesling vineyards back in the 1950’s. — 10 months ago

At the Henschke weekend at Spicers Maryvale. Brief notes. 100% Semillon grown on the Henschke Eden Valley vineyard. From 50 year old vines planted by Stephen’s father, Cyril. Very pale in colour. Aromatics of ripe grapefruit. Granny Smith apple on palate with a slightly soapy texture. Different to Hunter Valley Semillon and more approachable at a young age. — 10 months ago
