Domaine Du 58

Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru)

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits, floral spice and smoky cedar notes, aged 12 months in 60% new barrels. On the palate flavors of fresh blackberry, plum and black cherry with cacao, tobacco, licorice and smoky spice. Fine grainy tannins, well balanced on long finish, ending with fruit, cedar, smoke and earthy mineral character. Very nice, starting to drink now, will age a few more years to really enjoy! — a day ago

Billet Doux Late Harvest Sémillon 2013

My second set of wines to provide as part of a co-host event.

I picked these up during a visit to Morlet in the fall of ‘21. Sadly, these are the last of my initial stash. 58 semillon/36 SB/6 Muscat.

Poured blind for a group of 20 people at the end of a wine event, I was shocked that not one single person called this Cali. Many Sauternes, Barsac, and a few South African dessert wine guesses. It’s undeniably sporting botrytis flavors, but the richness has a wonderful spine of acidity. Honeyed mango, white peach and chock-full of orange blossom on the nose, there’s added candied spice and honeycomb on the palate. Didn’t pick up any nutty flavors (which I enjoy in Sauternes), but this was also fairly young. Extremely “fresh” for a dessert wine, if that makes sense. Best Cali dessert wine I’ve had, I think.

I think most people do not know that such a wine is made in California. I would have guessed the same.

Peterson Winery

Tollini Vineyard Zero Manipulation Carignane Blend

Nose of raisins and licorice. First sip was too oaky for me, but I hate tasting any oak. With food , much nicer. Nice rounded fruit, mouthfeel. With a buzz, even better! Score keeps going up. Blend is 58% carignane, 23 Grenache, 15 Syrah, and 4 petite sirah. — 3 years ago

Bodyguard Petit Verdot Petite Sirah 2020

Love the inky color out of the bottle. Loads of black currant, leather, tobacco and dark chocolate. The lengthy finish gives me some cherry and plum. One of my best Daou wines in the lineup. Varietal: 58% Petit Verdot, 42% Petite Sirah. — 6 months ago

Darioush

Caravan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2018

The wine of the evening is the 2018 Darioush Caravan from Napa Valley. The blend of this wine is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 8% Malbec.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black currant, licorice, all spice, mocha, vanilla and herbs.

On the palate I have juicy black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, fig, plum, black currant, chocolate, a hint of green bell pepper and dark soil.

This wine is full bodied that has a smooth mouthfeel with medium acidity and medium to medium + fine focused tannins and gives a medium to long black fruit cedar finish. I hope everyone's week ahead is a good one, stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Bodega DiamAndes

Clos de los Siete Malbec Blend

I think this is an amazing Malbec blend - 58%, 23% Merlot, 10% Cab, 8% Syrah, and 1% Petit Verdot but… it needs to open up a little bit more; I can’t help being impatient- this wine has been 9 years for me to find it tucked away in a small city Arkansas liquor store. Initial impressions are - I love this but and the intricacy of the blend. On the nose - definitely blackberry and black currants. So smooth and perfectly balanced on the palette. I would definitely purchase this again but I’d look for an older bottle for sure! Oh, did I mention this bottle cost under $20? — 9 months ago

Château Potensac

Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 1997

1997 vintage. A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. The most humble of the Domaines Delon stable ( Léoville Las Cases, Clos du Marquis, Nénin) is showing incredibly well at 27 years old. Showing its age more in the nose than in the taste, but actually improving with decanting ( thanks broken cork!). Still good fruit, with refreshing acidity and a good grip of soft tannin. Very good length too. Still worth seeking out from a well-stored bottle. — 2 years ago
