Over three hours this opened beautifully, gaining depth, flesh and amplitude while keeping terrific freshness. The nose became increasingly brambly and spicy, with damson, moss, forest underbrush and deep cherry fruit. The palate filled out into a velvety, juicy, richly fruited expression, with the classic 2023 chord progression from sour cherry through sweet and mid-season cherry, substantial ripe tannins and excellent acidity. Forward and generous for Fichots, but still unmistakably structured and site-driven, with a long, tangy finish and real depth. Delicious now with air, but clearly built to evolve.

Day two and this has fully arrived. The tannins have melted into the wine and become beautifully textural, while the fruit is now deep, luxurious and completely seamless, with terrific freshness keeping all that richness alive. Gorgeous amplitude, purity and balance, with the classic brambly, spicy, woodland Fichots character still underneath. I gave this 9.5 back in May, and after day two I see no reason whatsoever not to put it right back there. — 2 days ago

Faint - Dijon mustard. I rated this vintage many many times. Very pale. Drink up really. At its peak - this is awesome but will not get better. Quite oxidized. Profound orange 🍊 notes / Inter-dispersed with fading dark cherry. Incredible well balanced at this point. „Tip of the spear….“. Super complex back palate - what the hell is this? This bottle was opened sometime earlier in the evening before a glass was handed to me. Pacalet’s 2018 Cornas pours, a deep ruby purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with wild notes of ripe and tart black and red fruits: mixed brambles, freshly cracked black pepper, bacon fat, lavender, dried green herbs and gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. Considering Philippe is Burgundian, I think he does a great job with Cornas; certainly showing a sense of place with the feral nature of Serine. Drink now through 2038. — a year ago

Clear, medium ruby to garnet in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced intensity primary and secondary aromas of black cherries, cassis, and graphite; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, high tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, and intense primary and secondary flavors of blackberries, black cardamom, and wet gravel with a medium finish. Longtime favorite and I snap up this foxy number whenever I see it. Crunchy strawberry and herbs, a bit of animal and yeast at the end but not too much to compromise the freshness. I don’t think this ages and should be drunk up but that doesn’t make it any less special — 2 years ago
