Côtes -du-Rhone Syrah 2020

This wine is inky dark in the glass. The nose sports aromas of blackberry, plum, and currant, with notes of sweet oak spice, white pepper, and a bit of anise. There is also a tarry sensation in the bouquet. The palate displays all the fruit you can handle, along with some of that oak. The tannic grip is fairly intense upon opening and should be left to breathe a bit before serving. It is a great pairing with any kind of fatty beef. — 9 months ago

Jessie James Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Medium Ruby color with aromas dark red fruits, black tea and ample floral spice, aged in 8% new French oak for 21 months. On the palate flavors of black cherry, blackberry and plum with tobacco, cedar, black pepper, tea and vanilla spice. Soft fine tannins, long finish, well balanced with acidity, ending with fruit, herb, spice and flinty wet stone mineral character. Nice! Organic! — 2 years ago

Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2006

Black and red cherries mixed with spices and pepper. Medium bodied, very polished tannins and excellent to drink now. We like it a great deal. — 4 years ago

Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2021

Really nice Crozes with those pepper and bacon notes you expect but plush black fruit forward too. Quite tight — I got the real experience at 2.5 hours open. — 2 months ago

Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph Syrah 2006

#AgedWineTuesday

Dark inky in color with a reddish rim.

Nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light mildew, earth, herbs, spices, tobacco leaf, dark coffee, light forest floor and black pepper.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth, dried meats, black tea and light vegetables.

Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.

This 19 year old Syrah from Northern Rhône is still drinking nicely, although definitely not at its peak anymore.

Not in your face kind of wine at this point. Elegant, with nice complexity. Interesting, and still powerful.

Mildew and forest floor notes start to disappear after 90 minutes in the decanter. Still showing some fruit notes though, which is nice to see.

Good by itself or with food.

13% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Rosso di Montepulciano Sangiovese 2019

Most excellent! Lovely wine with smoke , strawberries , dusty earth and cedar notes. If you give it some time in the glass I even get hints of honeyed fig. Beautiful fruit on the palate and just enough hints of white pepper. 14% and beautifully balanced. Mild acidity and lovely finish that isn’t overbearing. This wine is delish, don’t hate on this beauty. 💋 — 4 years ago

Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2014

Blend of Grenache (70%), Syrah (20%) and Mourvèdre (10%). Dark ruby color with a garnet meniscus. Aromas of black berry/cherry fruit, purple flowers, leather, garrigue and dried herbs. Flavors of dried blackberry and red and black cherry fruit, tobacco, black pepper, red and black licorice and a bit of smoked meat. Medium-plus body and finish. Plus acidity, nice structure and nicely smoothed out tannins. Well aged and hitting its peak. Appreciate you opening this one, Ron B! — 3 months ago

Isole e Olena

Cepparello Toscana Sangiovese 2019

Stellar. It took a solid hour to blow off the funk. It's ruby red in color with orange blending into the edge. Cranberry, white pepper, potting soil on the nose. Mouthfeel is dry, silky smooth and spherical. Alcohol medium plus but without heat. Acidity is absolutely perfect here at medium. Tannins are already pleasantly dry. This will improve, but it will be tough to keep my hands off my other 2 bottles.

La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah 1990

Decanted for a few hours, then taken to Saison in SF. Tawny color with lite rims, mostly translucent. Deep powerful nose, with notes of red fruit, smoked meat, dry brush, Asian spice, pepper, dark moist soil and a little menthol. Rich, silky and intense in the mouth. Long finish. Great juice. — 4 years ago

Great that Saison didn’t give you grief for bringing an open bottle.
