Little Mad Bird

Bird in Hand

Sparkling Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir 2020

Very drinkable. Flavours come through more at slightly warmer than fridge temperature. A little pink hue — 5 years ago

Cerdon Bugey Sparkling Rosé Poulsard Gamay 2017

A new-to-me Bugey, imported by the Dressner team, hopefully it's at least as good at the Bottex (K Lynch). Notes to follow...

Decent but not as good as my usual version on this AOC. Seems to be excessively frizante with a light head of foam at the top of our glasses. Color is beautiful, clear ruby, like a early summer raspberry a few days from peak ripening. Nose is tight, mashed strawberry is faint. Palate is refreshing, my standard note of strawberry-raspberry juice stands, but lacking some concentration. Great summer sipper.

More enjoyable, we're sitting on the patio looking at our rock wall and watching the newest version of baby Chipmunks (3) running about, wrestling, drinking water from the low bird bath and enjoying a little snack of bird seeds which my wife provided, she says they can't go hungry...

Love this... Deep yellow color. Drinking it with my Joseph, who's mad at me for eating all the Lindt chocolates. I love him. And this wine. Is it German or Italian? A little sweet. Yum. — 8 years ago

Two in the Bush Adelaide Hills Shiraz 2020

GV
9.1

Deep red/purple in colour, this wine was a real pleasure. We drunk this on its own and there was
blackberry and a little oak in its aroma. Dark fruit with some red berry giving a medium-body, medium tannin taste.

I suspect it would have been even more delicious has we decanted to let it open up.

Abts E de Riesling 2006

Some points of interest of this wine:

1. This is the first vintage of Abtserde.

2. At the time, slapping the name Abtserde on the label was illegal and technically still is. You see, lieu-dit labelling was disallowed in the 71' German vineyard reform. KP thought Abtserde, being an exceptional section of GL Brunnenhauschen, needed stand out on its own. With a little bit wits, he circumvented this rule by creating the wine under it's own brand, Abts E®, which we see today.

3. This was a different style of KP's wines. Huge extract, more generous, but still kept in check by mad acidity. These days, KP's wines are lighter and even more precise, but never lacking in dry extract. In short, KP's wines are getting more elegant. Still, I love them both 🤩

This is a throwback, so I'm not going to try writing the tasting notes. My notes were brief and illegible. Only thing I could read was "more bot, insane extract, acid, stone". I remember the experience well - brought by M, sourced from FB, excellent bottle, destroyed in 30 minutes along with Felix, KP, and Guy. What a night!

NB: Take the rating with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, this was an amazing wine for a difficult vintage.

Chambolle-Musigny Pinot Noir 2011

A year ago today, with the help of Mr. @Andrew Fortgang there was an amazing Roumier dinner at Little Bird. I broke my wrist the next day.

Decided to open up a simple Roumier to celebrate. This 2011 was in a nice place, red fruits, pitched deeper than expected, with freshness and enough energy within the oak. Will get better but drinking great now.

Uh, uh, yeah, aight...kinda works? 😝 it’s got that juicy, juicy fruit, but maybe more like the crystalline clarity of a jolly rancher. Black cherry, a little red fruit jelly, touch of grassiness and some bright ass notes. Love it

Côtes du Jura Poulsard Blend 2015

The label says to “uncork 3 to 4 hours before tasting” so I did. Pale garnet with rust on the edges, a little VA (not a bad thing) on the nose with cherries and roses. Delicate but not without structure. Red fruits, florals, licorice, dried herbs, touch of wild yeast, and a saline minerality that went great with this brined roasted bird — 7 years ago

Particular Cariñena 2015

This is a new wine for me. 100% Cariñena. I’m mad because my allergies are bothering me so my smell is off but it’s very smooth, a little acidic but fruity, medium body and dark ruby red in color. Very nice wine! — 8 years ago
