Vincent Dauvissat

Petit Chablis Chardonnay 2014

Lyle Fass
9.4

A reminder that categories matter less than producers. Beautifully mature and completely alive, showing notes of cheese rind, oyster shell, sea breeze, lemon oil, and savory Chablis minerality. The youthful voltage of Petit Chablis has softened into something broader and more complex, but the freshness remains remarkable. Textured, versatile, and endlessly food-friendly, with a wonderful combination of mature savory character and classic limestone tension. Drinking beautifully and a perfect companion to charcuterie, pâté, and richer appetizers. A fascinating wine and a terrific lesson in what happens when supposedly "simple" Chablis is made by a master. — 12 days ago

Vincent Dauvissat

Irancy Pinot Noir 2022

From a minuscule plot that covers barely more than an acre; this is one of Vincent Dauvissat’s rare red wines. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90 minutes. The 2022 Irancy pours a slightly dull, ruby color with a translucent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, fresh and funky notes of strawberry with stems, red flowers, and a mix of cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A round and balanced expression of Irancy. No doubt the vintage comes into play. Lovely stuff with charming personality. Drink now through 2037. — 3 months ago

@Tom Casagrande believe it or not, I didn’t even know this existed until I was at a restaurant in Reims, late last year and it was on the list. I was like, 😳.

Domaine Vincent Paris

Granit 30 Cornas Syrah 2019

Musk, Holly berries and bramble, pine needles, iron, velvet, driftwood, hints of coffee and bold red meat. There’s berries in there, red, lush, ripe and dark, but it’s so well integrated into the perfume (and it is perfume) that it’s impossible to separate them. Like a thin spread of preserves and dank basement. Palate has that lean nature of Syrah, between medium and light bodied, tannins present, but molded well into the palate, not ostentatious. Lush, silky dark red and black fruits roll forth, along with some charcoal, graphite, blood, and iron. — 4 months ago

Les Vieilles Vignes Volnay Pinot Noir 2020

Bright ruby color. Aromas of red berry fruit, violets, wood smoke and wet soil. Flavors of red cherries and currants with additional notes of cooked mushrooms, baking spices and coffee. Medium bodied but a bit short on the mid-palate. Silky tannins and light acidity. Part of Kevin Zraly’s 2025 Red Burgundy Master Class. — 7 months ago

@Peter van den Besselaar Vincent Paris is Robert Michel’s nephew who basically inherited Robert’s “Le Geynale” vines on Reynard. In fact, Vincent’s labels are nearly identical to his uncles. Quality is extremely high, obviously.

I just bought the Granit 60 2020 and La Geynale 2019. But reviews tell me to keep it 10 years before opening…if you want the seller I can give it to you, they are from Duffel and they ship. They have several vintages

Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru Chardonnay 2012

Stunning. Dauvissat perfection. 2012 Clos is perfect tonight, with more fruit definition than Preuses as expected from the site. It’s textural, chiseled and powerful with Chablisen oyster shell minerality layered in a tidal wave of spiced orchard fruit and white flowers. It’s incredibly silky on the palate showing killer volume and density with racy citrusy acids and a sea spray-like salinity to round it out. When Dauvissat is on it’s hard to beat. And this is still young. — 4 months ago

Greenwood Ranch Petite Sirah 2017

9.3

The winery is known for its Petite Sirah, and this bottling from the home estate in Calistoga shows why.

Aromas of blueberry, plum, violet, dark chocolate, black pepper and subtle fresh herbs. Rich and powerful palate, yet surprisingly lifted, with fresh acidity and firm but polished tannins. Finish is long, savory and gently candied.

Will benefit from further bottle aging and drink beautifully for the next 8-10 years.

Vaillons Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2021

2021 vintage. Decanted and tasted after 30 minutes at approximately 55 degrees. Medium body. Powerful core of acidic/citric concentration swaddled by delicate lanolin and oak. Textbook essential Chablis yet clinical and complicated. Spectacular. 2.25.26. — 4 months ago
