Red plum, mocha, and balsamic notes, balanced acidity, long finish with spicy and earthy notes. — a month ago
This is the 2013 Ar.Pe.Pe Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva ‘Nuova Regina’. It’s 100% Chiavennasca and aged 39 months in cask.
It is PALE ruby in color with pronounced aromas and flavors of red and black cherry, bright raspberry, mulberry, pomegranate, purple fig, stewed strawberry rhubarb, rose, potpourri, black licorice, black tea, anise seed, fennel, tri-colored peppercorns, peat, vanilla, cardamom, nutmeg, forest floor, and mushroom.
On the palate, this wine is dry, w/ medium (+) acidity, a medium body, medium alcohol (13% ABV), & medium (+) tannins that are smooth and velveteen; it has a lingering finish.
It’s an outstanding wine, incredibly fresh now with runway to age & gain complexity in the bottle. — 2 months ago
Dark red color with a copper tinge. Aromas of dark red fruit. Medium body. Entry has a hint of sweetness. Dry with dark cherry, tobacco, little coffee notes. Very bright acidity for such an old wine brings it to a perfect balance. Tannins are there, but well balanced. Excellent wine.

Bright juicy fun. For the price point, must buy! — a month ago
A lovely complement to spaghetti and meatballs with Fra Diavolo sauce. Soft mouth feel and dark ruby color. After decanting and breathing for an hour the dark cherry and chocolate really pop. — a month ago
2021. Cherry, orange peel, fruit roll up, iodine, dried herbs, slight tar and nice acid. — 23 days ago
Tart cherry and perhaps strawberry. Some deeper notes, but not too strong. Light color. More fruit on the nose than in the mouth. — 2 days ago
Never had a bad Ornellaia...don't know if such a thing exists. Beautiful elegance and balance. With age and grace this wine is perfectly integrated but possibly in its last true glory days. Celebrating our wedding anniversary and was the perfect accompaniment! — a month ago

Made from 100% Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) sourced from the Sassella sub-zone, this wine is far from light despite its light color. It’s beautifully elegant, with incredible acidity designed for aging. We enjoyed a 2016 that was singing after a short decant. Really loved this one.
