Les Arums de Lagrange Sémillon Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2023

Pale lemon in color with a light golden hue.

Strong nose of citrus, limes, light oak, spices, earth and herbs.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity. Crisp and refreshing.

Dry on the palate with lemons, green apples, grapefruits, herbs, earth, spices and light wood.

Nice length on the finish with limes and almonds.

This is a very tasty white wine from Bordeaux. Elegant and spicy. Well balanced and complex. Soft and smooth.

Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. Will pair nicely with fresh seafood.

A blend of 73% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Sauvignon Gris and 15% Sémillon. Aged for 7 months in (40% new) French Oak barrels.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

#AgedWineTuesday

Dense dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, licorice, chocolates, spices, dark coffee, vegetables, herbs and black pepper.

Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and fruit forward with blackberries, black currants, black plums, tobacco leaf, cedar, light earth, spices, dark coffee, herbs, dark chocolates, peppercorn and black tea.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious 15 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from the great 2010 vintage in Bordeaux. Rich and extracted. Complex and engaging. Powerful and spicy.

Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. Fruit forward and interesting.

Drinking very nicely now and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food, like a big piece of steak.

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. Aged in (60% new) French Oak barrels for 21 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Château La Grange

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. Bottom neck fill. Excellent cork. Decanted with appropriate sed. Slightly darker color than all the 1990 BDX I've tasted in the last year. Initial, slight funk on the nose that dissipated rapidly. Tasted immediately after decant, 1 hour and 2 hours later. Started softly but then brought out that big, Lagrange stick. Cedar, smoke, plum, leather, mercury, distilled dark cherry, summer pond mud. Displayed better balance throughout than expected with good staying power. Based on this excellent sample, will be shopping for more. Could hold in this spot for another half-decade before recalibrating. 12.5.25. — a month ago

Château Margaux

Pavillon Blanc White Bordeaux Blend 1989

Medium lemon colour , white bright for its age . Quite reserved on the nose at first , with some lanolin , wet wool, wax , honied orange peel , touch of herbal spice . On the palate this is slightly rounder than expected , with lemon peel , hints of orange , honey and spiced apricot . Good acidity , balanced alcohol , quite textural . Medium length , slightly toasty , lightly honied lemon rind finish . Does feel like it has semillon in the blend , though it does not . Showing well still , this is at peak , though I wouldn’t leave it too much longer . A really good showing . — 4 months ago

Les Fleurs du Lac

White Bordeaux Blend 2021

Another delicious rendition of the “Chateau Lagrange Blanc.” Beautiful fragrance seemingly melds a little herbal, gooseberryish SB with characteristic lanolin and orchard fruit Semillon notes (I have no idea what the blend is here.) Deep, lovely, soft minerality too. Impeccable balance in the mouth. Nice but gentle acids keep the deep, long, dry palate fresh. Such a great value too. — 5 months ago

@Tom Casagrande, the 2021 was apparently 80% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sauvignon Gris — yet the Lagrange webpage discusses picking the “Semillon” — so, is Sauvignon Gris the same as Semillon in Bordeaux?? I don’t know.

I guess they didn’t end up putting the Semillon in the blend. Sauvignon Gris is a different grape. I’ve had some Sauvignon Gris from the Loire. Nice grape!
