Rutherford Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Pure Silk! Subtle fruit! Hints of chocolate, cherry, plums. Notes of old leather and tobacco. I would love to say enjoyed with an aged prime rib, but have to admit was enjoyed with our last quart of chile we made in Dec. I could drink this with a PBJ sandwich. Really don’t think it’s hit it peak yet! — 2 days ago

Ahhh…But it was my “special” Chile! Been drinking great wines for almost 50 years now. At 72, I’ve learned to enjoy wine with any dish.

Inglenook

Rubicon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1981

Opened with the assistance of a Durand and decanted about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 1981 Rubicon pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with a combination of dried, ripe and tart, red and black fruits: mixed brambles, red and black currants, black cherry, tobacco, Poblano pepper, old leather, dried flowers, a mix of organic and inorganic earth, minerals and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin (integrated) and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+ and sanguine. A rather remarkable ‘81 that seems almost evergreen when considering the color and condition of the fruit. In fact, it seemed to gain energy with air. Impressive. Drink now with a short decant and through 2041. — 3 months ago

Monsieur Ètain Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

It’s been 4 years since my last bottle. This is a PNP and it’s amazing, not only for a 2017, but any year. Drinking wonderfully now. Structure is solid. Fruit is ripe. Just really good right now. — 9 days ago

Pritchard Hill Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

From magnum. Partially poured into a decanter and enjoyed over the course of a couple days. Best on Day 2. The 2015 Pritchard Hill pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and richly fruited with powerful, heady notes of cassis, blackberries, plum, purple flowers, tobacco, cocoa, some star anise and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and the texture is luxurious. Classic Pritchard Hill character and surely a candidate for top vineyard status if the US were to ever adopt a classification status. There’s a long future here, especially in this larger format. Drink now with patience through 2055. — a day ago

Hard to say. The large format can skew things. I bet the 750’s are bangin

Nice but I'll always opt for the "Signature" offering for the price. Have tasted a decade's worth+ of the Pritchard Hill vehicle. A bit too plushy for me but the Signature is Baby Bear old school just right.

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego The Signature is great and most of the fruit is coming from Pritchard Hill anyway.

The nose bursts with aromas of blackberry, cassis, violet, cocoa, dry herbs, a distinct iron-like minerality. The palate is rich and composed, with a vibrant streak of acidity. Velvety tannins frame the fruit without heaviness. The finish lingers long with subtle spices.

A powerful Rutherford cab with lots of finesses. Long life ahead.

40th Anniversary Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Cherry and berry nose. Fruit forward with a distinctive spice. Tannins and acidity have mellowed. Easily my favorite. Easy to drink. Drank this 2009 in 2026. Probably my favorite vintage. I save it for special occasions, but it’s time to drink it. Bottom of the cork was getting crumbly. — 12 days ago

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Dry-Farmed, a bit of Cabernet Franc in mix, aged 20 months in mostly neutral French oak barrels. Dark Ruby red color with aromas of ripe berry fruits, herbs and floral spice. On the palate flavors of ripe black cherry, raspberry and cassis with espresso, cinnamon and earthy spice notes. Nice balance, lively acidity, fine tannins, long ending with fruit, cacao and tobacco spice! Nice! — 22 days ago

Inglenook

Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Inglenook — Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Rutherford, Napa Valley, California, USA 🇺🇸

Overview
Crafted from 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Merlot, and 0.5% Petit Verdot, this estate-grown Cabernet showcases the remarkable 2018 Napa Valley vintage. Although positioned below the iconic Rubicon, it delivers the pedigree, precision, and elegance that have defined Inglenook for generations.

Aromas & Flavors
Layers of cassis, blackberry, black cherry, espresso, cedar, and graphite unfold alongside subtle bay leaf, dried herbs, and baking spices. The fruit is generous without excess, allowing Rutherford’s signature savory character to shine.

Mouthfeel
Full-bodied with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and exceptional balance. Deep and structured yet remarkably approachable, the wine carries impressive concentration while maintaining finesse through a long, refined finish.

Food Pairings
Grilled ribeye, dry-aged steak, lamb chops, braised short ribs, wild mushroom dishes, or aged Cheddar and Gouda.

Verdict
An outstanding expression of Rutherford Cabernet that consistently overdelivers. Powerful without being overwhelming, refined without sacrificing depth, it captures the classic Napa profile with remarkable harmony and age-worthy structure.

Did You Know?
Founded in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum, Inglenook is one of Napa Valley’s most historic estates. Under the stewardship of Francis Ford Coppola and renowned winemaker Philippe Bascaules (formerly of Château Margaux), the estate has been meticulously restored to its original vision of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.

🍷 Personal Pick
The 2018 and 2019 vintages remain among my favorite recent years from Napa. This bottle is proof that you don’t need to step up to Rubicon to experience the soul of Inglenook. It delivers everything I look for in a classic Napa Cabernet—depth, structure, refined herbaceous character, and effortless balance. A cerebral wine that reminds me why Rutherford continues to be one of the world’s great homes for Cabernet Sauvignon.

On the nose, the wine is developing with bright notes of star fruit, passion fruit, stone fruits, lemons, a touch of freshly struck matchstick, some white flowers and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and slightly saline. I love the character of these wines. Really tasty stuff. Volcanic Hill Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

Decant and pour. An amazing still dark garnet with bricking. On the nose: subtle notes of dark fruit, worn leather, herbaceous, pencil shavings, mint. Taste: savory, silky, elegant wine with some dried cherry/red plum, currants, tobacco, spice, earth, coffee grounds and a medium plus finish. YUM!!! Drinking beautifully for its age on this rain for an hour cool afternoon in Napa. — 3 months ago
