Located by the sea on the Isle of Islay this receives the slowest distillation of any Islay malt, then spends 16 years in old oak casks before being bottled. This is very pungent, peaty and smoky. Lot 12 Solex UW, disg 18 Feb 16. A stunning btl of champagne. Notes from 3 hrs open. Cranberry and cinnamon, then soft reductive notes, lemon peel, spices...on the palate: fantastic acidity, which is brighter than the nose suggests, then some lovely mineral notes with more cranberry and cinnamon. Ruby in color with medium intensity and a wide reddish rim.

Fresh red berries on the nose and medium in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing fresh cherries, sweet raspberries, light wood, tobacco, black pepper, chocolates, spices, light earth and herbs.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This young Pinot Noir from Oregon is starting to drink nicely now, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Rich and fruity, smooth and spicy. Nicely balanced and complex, soft and elegant.

I've had a few vintages of this Pinot Noir and it is so much better with age. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years.

A good quality wine. Good right out of the bottle, and better with some airtime.

Interesting, easy drinking and a good sipping wine.

Pinot Noir grapes were aged in (55% new) French oak barrels for 16 months.

Zoom event with Drew Bledsoe and Josh McDaniels. Vertical from ‘07, ‘14, ‘15, ‘16, ‘17, ‘17 estate, and ‘18. All were exceptionally smooth and silky with good depth of fruit. Notes on the ‘18: 90% CS, 5% Malbec, 5% Merlot. Least favorite of the night. Still a good wine but perhaps a bit too young, or just different enough from the others that I liked ones with a bit more age. This wine had a little more density than the others and perhaps a little more earth and graphite coming through that masked the fruit. It still had the classic doubleback elegance of the others but I felt we were not seeing this wine’s true expression. It only had about 1 hour in the glass and perhaps I need to pull another bottle, decant for a few hours and see what it does. — 5 years ago

Founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley, with caves that extend for over a mile. Pale lemon color with aromas of stone and tropical fruit, sweet oak, spice and floral scents. On the palate flavors of ripe peach, melon and apple, with vanilla spice, creamy texture. Grown on terraced mountain slopes between 350 and 500 meters.
The soil is Llicorella. Reddish black slate with mica quartz.
49 % Garnacha, 25 % Carinena, 16 % Syrah and 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dark cherries, blackberries, beautiful black violets, graphite earthiness, black olives and fennel.
Nicely rounded tannins with a layered and long finish.

A very dense Ruby in colour. Aromas of coconut oak - very oaky - a match I guess with the ultra ripe red and black fruits - pruney notes. Ultra concentrated McLaren Vale Shiraz writ large! Full bodied and rich - a winter wine par excellence. Medium minus acid. Right to drink this now or the next year or two. This wine was #2 in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2014. A great match with Beef Brisket on a cold night. 16% ABV. — 6 years ago

K: I LOVE Mollydooker wines. The fruit is always supremely extracted, the mouthfeel is soft, fine and luscious- and the 2016 “Maitre D” Cabernet is nooooo exception. The ‘16’s to begin with were awesome in Australia and, from what I have had, resplendent across the board. The deep nose of this one opens up to, frankly; an explosion of fruit on the palate. The tannins are so beautifully chewy, and reveal a mid-palate that is packed with a rich and exuberant set of currant, cassis- and a velvety texture that leads gracefully to a long and juicy finish.
