Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2020

The 2020 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a lovely appellation-level wine. Crushed red berries, spice, floral top notes and a touch of blood orange give this tasty, ethereal Pinot a good bit of brightness and enough complexity to support fine drinking over the next few years. — 2 years ago

Domaine Grosbot-Barbara

S.A.S Prince Charles-Henri de Lobkowicz St. Pourçain Chardonnay Blend 2019

This is a find. Tiny appellation Saint-Pourçain smack in the middle of France, renowned in the Middle Ages but sort of forgotten today. 70% Chardonnay, 30% tressalier (Sacy). Honeysuckle nose, pear. Rich luxurious palate unfolds like velvet curtains all balanced out by coursing acidity & mineral notes. Judicious buttery oak notes play second fiddle supporting the fruit. Stone fruit. Wow. 😍 @Lyle Fass @Matthew Cohen — 3 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Morgon Gamay 2019

Sourced from the Saint Joseph and Grand Crus subzones of the appellation, which give fine, stony wines, from 80-year old vines. A high-lying sandy parcel gives more complexity, structure, and acidity to the wine. Medium Ruby with red fruit and floral spice aromas. On the palate flavors of red raspberry, cherry, banana and earthy mint. Vivid acidity, fine tannins, medium+ finish, ending with fruit and spice. Very good, bottle age will benefit! — 2 years ago

Bio Tradition Morgon Gamay 2018

2017 did not really appeal to me. With 3 years of aging, the 2018 is remarkably well balanced. With the gourmet character of the appellation, and a certain depth that can be found more specifically in "plain" wines. Nice palsied on a Buratta pizza.

Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay 2022

Delectable Wine
9.2

The 2022 Chardonnay (Sta. Rita Hills) is a fabulous introduction to the range. Served last in this series of Chardonnays, the appellation Chardonnay is perhaps a bit more floral and lighter in body, but other than that, it is in no way inferior to the vineyard designates. This is beautifully done. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2024)

Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2020

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2020 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is fabulous. In fact, the appellation wine is my favorite Pinot in this range. The combination of the sites, and a bit less stem influence than the vineyard designates, works so well. There's a bit more fruit, more mid-palate sweetness and better balance overall, in my view. All the elements are so well put together. All of this fruit is from Machado and Hapgood. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2022)

Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Delectable Wine
9.5

The 2018 Grand Puy Lacoste has a quintessential Pauillac nose of intense black fruit infused with graphite scents, pencil shavings and a very discreet marine influence. It is beautifully defined, less opulent than the 2018 Lynch Bages tasted alongside, yet maybe more complex. The palate is medium-bodied and taut, offering sappy black fruit, gritty tannins and a lot of crushed stone. The focused, graphite-driven finish could only come from this appellation. Superb. A wine to correct those bemoaning that Bordeaux no longer makes "proper Claret." (Neal Martin, Vinous, March 2021)
