Domaine Eden

Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Always solid! Didn’t realize this local place had BYOB on Monday’s, although I can’t recall the last time I drank on a Monday. Classic bell pepper with cherries and subtle oak. Nice texture and tannins. — 10 days ago

Every once in a while, the second label of Mount Eden (from the old Cinnabar property) nails it.

Tenuta San Guido

Guidalberto Toscana Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

This was the jewel of all of the wine options at this particular restaurant. Full-bodied, a bit fruit-forward; went well with both veal Marsala and lasagna. Bonus: the leftover wine, when corked and stored in the refrigerator, held up well for a week. — 4 days ago

Arnot-Roberts

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

2021. Drove to Omaha to attend an Arnot-Roberts wine class and tasting, and got there early to enjoy some delicious oysters with a bottle of fantastic Chardonnay that wasn’t on the tasting list. Unfortunately, Nathan Roberts flights were delayed and the class was cancelled, but we’re going home with a bunch of tasty wines instead! — 22 days ago

Paolo Bea

San Valentino Sangiovese Blend

Let her open up a bit. Rustic and medium bodied, earthy, just like a Umbria wine should taste — 2 months ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2024

Clear, deep ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of black currants, black plums, and cedar. On the palate, it's dry, medium acidity, high tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, and a pronounced intensity of primary and secondary flavors. It tastes like blackberries, eucalyptus, graphite, and black cherries with a long finish. This wine is a little off balanced (the eucalyptus flavor is a little too intense), complex, and intense. Overall, I would rate it as very good. Nellie liked it with steak. — 3 hours ago

It’s got that CA profile. Dusty earth and tooti frooti but also has some good spice. But yea, that CA profile. Elegant, sweet and balanced. Not big but small and pure. Nice. — a month ago

Turley

Duarte Vineyard Zinfandel 2017

Somewhat of a dessert wine and post dinner vino. This wine held up with great fruit and complexity. Really nice follow on to 25 year old CdP and high end champagne. Held its own with good concentration and depth. — 2 months ago
