Château Rieussec

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2002

*Color isn’t quite as dark as the picture shows*

Followed over a few days. Consistent profile.

From 375ml

Advanced caramel color with a tinge of orange. Thankfully, aromatics are as expected with orange marmalade, caramel and toffee. Viscous and weighty profile with low acidity. Faint notes of honey roasted nuts on the palate, but it’s mostly an orange marmalade, caramel and apricot dominated profile. Finish shows good length for what is considered an off-vintage, with the apricot and some bourbon vanilla. Good on its own. Drink now.

Château Pontet-Canet

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Very earthy and complex. There was considerable depth to the wine. It was excellent now but you tell this one should be a treasure for many more years. Blueberries, cassis and a bit of a smokiness. — 6 days ago

Château Gloria

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

2022 vintage. Deep dark red, with purplish rim. Very attractive nose already, with cassis, blackberries, raspberries, flowers and subtle cedar.
Midweight, with layers of succulent black and red fruits and fresh acidity, embedded in a ripe tannic structure. Great length, with a distinctive mineral touch. Not sure if it is as good as the incredible 2016, but a close contender for one of the best wines ever for this estate. Abv. 13%. It totally outperforms the Croizet Bages 2022 tasted alongside.

Château Lynch-Bages

Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2018

Highlight of the night! And a surprise to some degree. I kind off had given up on Lynch Bages. Given the high price, to me, the 2015 and 2016 were below expectation. But, boy, this 2018 rung all bells. Super concentrated, layers of evolving dark cherry, blueberry, current flavors and a superb balanced finish. All one could wish for. — 17 days ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. This was the start to the weekly tasting day with the reps. A fave guest brought this in. Was summoned to open it immediately despite having just strolled in. Grabbed the Durand and pounced. Didn't get the opportunity to see the fill but the foil, label and cork were all pristine (too little cork saturation for a 3+decade-old bottle). Screamed château reconditioned. Opened but not decanted. Good color. Great nose immediately. Tasted after 15 mins and 45 mins open. Tasted around noon but bottle needed to have been opened at prior midnight. Showed pretty well, however, with the delicate intricacies this wine is renowned for. Would have presented better with more air time but you can only control so much. 01.29.25. — a day ago

Château Suduiraut

Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2013

Demi-bouteille. D'une belle couleur or sale, le nez se décline avec des pêches confites, abricot, sucre brun. Il est d'une grande fraicheur. La bouche est mordante avec un superbe équilibre. La finale est longue et savoureuse. Une belle bouteille. — 12 days ago

Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2001

1st monthly wine group meetup for 2025, and everyone went big tonight. Nose: dark fruit, wet forest floor, sweet spice, cedar, truffles, touch of roasted meat. Taste: silky, energetic, balanced wine with red plum/berries, minerals, damp earth, tobacco, cinnamon chocolate espresso wrapped up in an amazing medium plus finish. YUM! — 17 days ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1989

1989 vintage. Opened but not decanted. Just got a (generous) side sample of this as I was entrenched with the weekly wine rep tastings. Tasted after 30 mins and one hour after opening. Definitely bretty (as expected) for the first tastes but that mostly dissipated by the end of the glass. Light-medium body with mostly bowed tannins initially. Longer it remained in the glass, the more the tannins came out to frolic. Still plenty of structure, fruit and front-palate intrigue (usually hidden/buried by tannins). Not improving at this point but-depending on storage and/or bottle size-still more than viable and deserving of massive respect. 01.29.25. — a day ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1955

Heartbreaker. Intense fruit. Loads of character and fresh. A Mahler bresse bottling which might explain the quality. Wonderful — 19 hours ago

Château Léoville Poyferré

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

Opened and double decanted several hours prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 1996 pours a deep ruby color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some signs of fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with a lovely combination of ripe and desiccated fruit: cassis, brambles, horse blanket, cigar box, old leather, earth and spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Another lovely and immensely charming Poyferré. Drink now with a decant and through 2046. — 12 days ago
