Château Léognan

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

Double decanted before service; enjoyed over a several hour period. The 1988 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and significant signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with dried dark fruit, tobacco, mocha, grilled meat, mushrooms, damp earth and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry. At this point, the tannins have integrated completely and are perceived as medium; acid is similar. Finish is medium. This leaned towards the more rustic, old school style of Bordeaux and I’m all for it. While this isn’t falling off a cliff, I would drink now. — 8 days ago

So little on the nose but the palate is beautiful. Waxiness of the semolina offsets the sauv blanc. White flowers. 2021 — 21 days ago

Clos Marsalette

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Investigating +-$20 red Bordeaux, part three. This was (not unexpectedly with the Von Neipperg style) the best of the three. Nice nose. Medium-medium heavy body. Not much in terms of tannic structure but compliant fruit without being a fruit bomb. Retail price was in the low-$20's. Would definitely hit this again. 6.1.24. — a month ago

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Saved in my cellar since purchasing it about 24 years ago. Deep purple color. Sooo smooth and silky. Some earthy tastes with tobacco flavors. No aftertaste. Just a little piece of heaven. 1990 vintage. — 2 days ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Unbeatable location and excellent wine list, this one jumped off the page at us. Not surprising as it was our wine of the year in 2022. It’s back with a vengeance in 2024, into the #1 spot again. Smooth, almost creamy, with classic dark fruits (cherry), dark chocolate and earthy, leathery finish. Perfect with our Chateaubriand 👌🏼 — 20 days ago

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Delectable Wine
9.6

The 2016 Les Carmes Haut-Brion is consistent with previous bottles. It soars from the glass with those (to use a word I used last time) disarming array of blackberry, iris and fig aromas, but displaying a little more blue fruit than I recall. The palate is very well balanced with a velvety texture, pure with just a hint of black pepper. Interestingly, the 65% whole bunches are barely noticeable, just a guiding hand that shapes the finish. Sapid yet tender, this is an outstanding Pessac-Léognan. Tasted from an ex-château bottle at the Icons of Bordeaux dinner at Legacy Records in New York. (Neal Martin, Vinous, May 2024)

Domaine de Chevalier

Pessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend 2012

Initial aromas of passion fruit. 76% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Semillon. Grassy and herbal notes. Quite delicate. A guava note on the palate. Only 35% new oak which is totally integrated. So refreshing and balanced. I have previous Delectable notes which were also praiseworthy. — 14 days ago

Impressive Pessac Leognan. Smooth tannins, slight smokey aromas, and smooth deep berry flavors. It’s a food wine, like with a nice fillet. — 22 days ago
