Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2016 pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe black and red fruits: cassis, blackberries, raspberries, red plum, tobacco, a touch of bell pepper, earth, old wood, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A classic expression of Bordeaux during a period where the lines between New and Old World have been blurred. This is tasty and showing well in its early drinking window. This is a BENCHMARK dry Bordeaux blanc made w/ 65% Sauvignon Blanc, lending aromatics, acidity, and brightness; and 35% Semillon, lending weight, body, and softness.

It was fermented in stainless steel, then aged 10 months in oak (25% new), with routine bâtonnage.

It has a brilliant lemon hue with concentrated aromas and flavors of lemon curd, vanilla, cream, gooseberry, freshly cut grass, boxwood, chervil, lemongrass, white peach, white blossom, cheese rind, gunflint, and wet stones. It’s dry with mouth-watering acidity, a medium (+) body, medium alcohol (13% ABV), and a lingering, elegant finish.

It’s complex and balanced, with runway to age and a capacity to develop layers of tertiary characteristics such as honey, dried fruit, and nuttiness.

It comes from the Pessac-Léognan AOC in the Graves region, on the “left bank” of Bordeaux, just south of the Haut-Medoc; an appellation known for its high quality red and white wines. — 15 days ago

Deeper ruby , redder thinner ruby rim . Quite round and rich , inviting , earthy dark cherry , spicy blackberry notes , touch of tobacco and dark chocolate. On the palate this is also riper and richer , though with a mix of red and dark fruits , cassis , raspberry, cherry , red plum . Round sweet tannins , balanced acidity , a bit more alcohol perhaps and slightly sweeter medium length finish. Still quite young and fruit driven , probably will enjoy another 10 years of prime drinking . No formal notes . Medium deep ruby . This seems a bit more advanced . This is a bit harder and more structured on the palate , more tannin , less velvety and a bit more astringent . More spicy , drier on the palate . This needed more time to open . This was quite difficult to judge , I wasn’t 100% convinced about this bottle as it just seemed a little oxidative, however it did actually seemed to come together better after an hour or so , but still quite hard and astringent in comparison to the others (especially La Mission) . Showed a touch more mineral and grafite on the finish too after a while. This needed time , and I would imagine another bottle might tell a different story . — 23 days ago
