Château Laville Haut Brion

Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

1990 vintage. This was the start to the weekly tasting day with the reps. A fave guest brought this in. Was summoned to open it immediately despite having just strolled in. Grabbed the Durand and pounced. Didn't get the opportunity to see the fill but the foil, label and cork were all pristine (too little cork saturation for a 3+decade-old bottle). Screamed château reconditioned. Opened but not decanted. Good color. Great nose immediately. Tasted after 15 mins and 45 mins open. Tasted around noon but bottle needed to have been opened at prior midnight. Showed pretty well, however, with the delicate intricacies this wine is renowned for. Would have presented better with more air time but you can only control so much. 01.29.25. — 2 days ago

Château Haut-Brion

Premier Grand Cru Classé Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

First growth Bordeaux with Christmas Dinner! (Thanks to my wonderful Son-in-Law). Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (57%), Merlot (23%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). Dark Ruby color with a slight rust colored rim. Extremely savory on both the nose and palate. Aromas of charcoal, graphite, unsweetened cocoa and black cherry. Flavors of tobacco, bakers chocolate, roasted herbs and a bit of black berry/cherry fruit. Very long and oaky/earthy finish. Well structured, full bodied and very complex. Soft tannins. Quite a treat! Thanks so much, Petey! — a month ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes . Slightly lighter than the others , but still ruby , touch of garnet at the rim. Spicer and rounder red and dark fruits . Finer and more mineral more elegant on the palate . Quite elegant . Refined and elegant , mineral , good balance and acidity . This came across as lighter than the others , though with no lack of definition . Mineral , grafite tinged finish . Showing well this is probably going to have a slightly shorter life than the others , but is great for medium term drinking , over next 5-10 years perhaps . — 12 hours ago

Château La Mission Haut-Brion

Graves Red Bordeaux Blend 1990

Decanted 3 hours prior - but kept evolving in the glass. Typical flavor profiles, was initially closed but then nicely opened up. Very smooth and just pleasurable to drink on this New Year’s Eve. — a month ago

Château Haut-Brion

Le Clarence de Haut-Brion Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

Medium ruby pink rim, quite thin rim. More dense and darker on the nose than the Chapelle . Dark plum , blackberry , dark cherry , touch of spice again , quite dense , with a touch of spice on the medium length finish . Lacks the elegance of the Chapelle , a bit more tannic and bigger boned , less fresh perhaps , but a touch more mineral also . Needs more time , another 3-5 years and will show well for a further 5 -8. Again successful but the La Chapelle just comes out in front , though this will be longer lived . — a month ago

Chateau Bahans Haut-Brion

Pessac-Leognan Red Bordeaux Blend 1996

1996 vintage. Still good fruit, Pessac-Léognan spices. A very good second wine. Drinking well, but I believe it will hold for at least a decade. Serious length too. — 9 days ago

Very good. Maybe to young. Had some liquerish flavor at the end. But was drinking this next to a margaux.

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2007

No formal notes . medium deep ruby , medium bright ruby rim. Quite spicy a little oak noticeable at first . Mixed dark fruits . A bit more round and juicy on the palate , good acidity , slightly grippy but polished tannins . This becomes a bit more restrained and reserved after a while. Served blind , I actually put this as Haut Brion , due to its generous personality, and polished tannins. Overall showed well in the flight was my top wine (though the Cheval Blanc may well be better in absolute terms) . Can be enjoyed now , though has the substance to last a further decade or so, a good showing for the Mouton. — 12 hours ago
