Château Vrai Canon Bouché

Canon-Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

2009 vintage. Drinking just in time. Still lots of spicey black fruits. Cedar and old tobacco. Cacao notes also. — 2 months ago

Marie-Laure Lurton

La Tour de Bessan Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2021

2021 vintage. A good example of a charming 2021 Margaux, that can be enjoyed now or for at least 10 years. — 19 days ago

Château La Tour de Bessan

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 1997

1997 vintage. A nice surprise in a vintage that was not highly regarded. Today, the 1997 outshined the 2000 La Tour de Bessan. Wonderful tasting with Marie-Laure Lurton, who kindly opened older vintages of La Tour de Bessan and Villegeorge. Unfortunately the 1961 Villegeorge was corked but one could tell the structure of the wine,it should be great from a good bottle. — 19 days ago

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Very fresh nose of cherries, plums, light oak, licorice, spices, herbs, chocolates, tobacco, earth and minerals.

Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blueberries, black plums, fresh cherries, light oak, spices, chocolates, black tea, dark coffee, herbs and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This is a delicious Merlot from Saint Emilion. Rich and engaging. Elegant and fruit forward with a silky soft mouthfeel.

This 8 year old Merlot is still young, but already drinking beautifully.,and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Complex and interesting. Nicely balanced and spicy. Loved smelling on it for a while.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food.

A blend of 77% Merlot and 23% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (56% new) French Oak barrels for 18 months.

14% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$125.

I have one of these in the cellar! Going to try to refrain from popping it until it’s at least 10 years old, even though it sounds yummy right now.

Domaine de la Tour du Bon

Bandol Mourvedre Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Last tasted 8.26.22 (9.3) and 7.21.21 (9.3). Medium/medium-heavy body. Slightly less end palate lift than last two encounters and tasting like it is in that proverbial "state of confusion...er...transition." Would like to taste again and will give it 3-4 years before revisiting to do this justice. Pretty unified now without side projects and ancillary rabbit holes but something tells me this has another third act of mayhem and debauchery up its' sleeve. 07.09.25. — 10 days ago

Château Tour Saint-Christophe

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2021 pours a deep purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe dark fruits: blackberries, dark cherry, plums, purple flowers, cocoa, organic earth and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. A crowd pleaser to drink now but with enough substance to enjoy through 2036. — a month ago
