One can not help but to get excited when you see an iconic producer and an almost 50 year old bottle. The nose is Bordeaux like with elements of old wooden furniture, , leather, and an autumn day in the woods. On the palate those elements meet up with plums and dark berries . A wine held together by structure. Would have loved to have tried 10-15 years ago. — 4 months ago
Bigger deeper notes for a Zin with coffee, blackberry, and leather. Some stronger tannins but not a total alcohol bomb at 14.3% — 2 months ago

Still quite primary darkfruit aromas and flavors, moderately harsh tannins as well, for me, typical of the early to mid-1980s Montelena Cabernets that had some harsh, tannic edges, should live for 10+ years easily, but I doubt it will ever be charming, solid Napa Cabernets that had, and should pair nicely with some New Zealand farm-raised medallions of venison I’m about to grill. — a month ago
