Noël Verset

Cornas Syrah 1985

Lunch in Yountville for my wife’s birthday (decorum prevents discussing numbers, though I can’t even count that high!?!?) — decanted off the sediment, intense bacon fat and smoky notes, wine is in amazing condition, great on palate, really shows that rustic Cornas character, super long finish, really a spectacular Verset Cornas, cheers to Noel Verset!!! — 3 days ago

@Ira Schwartz, it was, maybe the single greatest bottle of Cornas I’ve ever drank. @Tom Casagrande, she was happy, so I earned another year on my life sentence. . . . 🤷👀🙄

La Chavaroche Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2010

Still pretty tight. Tannic day one, fruity day two. Only a bit salty. Hold em. — 2 days ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

Tasting the 2013 La Las this was the weakest of the three. A good wine but not great and lacking in wow factor. Probably too young but more bla bla than la la at the moment. — 16 days ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2021

Okay this wine was amazingly delicious but was undoubtedly quite young in this present moment.

There is so much more potential to unveil over time.

It has concentrated plum, fig, red currant, pomegranate, boysenberry notes next to licorice, meat, earth, peat, clove notes. Tannins and acidity are firm.

With time, we anticipate edges will be soften and complexity will be deepen with more tertiary notes and we cannot wait to revisit this wine down the road again.

2021 was such an outlier from the previous seven vintages in the Rhône, which were all warmer and made fairly powerful wines. For the record, I love the ‘21’s as they remind me of the 2014 vintage which I found to be more Burgundian and showed more of the rotundone I adore in Syrah.

@Jay Kline Thank you for your note! We can see what you mean. It was elegant, refined, with classic spicier notes. We are fans! We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled for the 2014s, too. 👀 Cheers!

Les Vignes d'à Côté Syrah 2025

Pleasant. Subtle cranberry fruit. Subtle tartness. Touch of sweet.

More enjoyable after it opened up.

La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah

This needs time. Has the highest potential from the three and is already smooth and rounded. Taste wise there are some bordeauxy flavours...just needs another 5-10 years — 16 days ago

Only got a taste before this emptied. Every btl of these feels different, and this one was fresh and acid driven. — 5 days ago

Cornas Reynard (R) Syrah 2011

Always a treat with its perfumed aromatics, balanced dark cherry, berry fruits, spice, mineral, graphite, iron, olive, pepper & violets — 9 days ago

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2013

The best of the three Guigal wines at the moment. Juniper and bay leaf dominated the palate in this wine that seemed more integrated and developed than the other two. Went well with venison. — 16 days ago
