La Badina

Riserva Lessona Red Blend 2017

Not a riserva.

Needs a 60 minute decant. Then amazing. Sweet spices on the palate with midseason cherry. Allspice. Nutmeg. Distinctive and delicious.

As this opens you get that sweet Nebbiolo spice on the nose. Magnificent sweet roses.

Jacques Selosse

Initial Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Champagne Chardonnay

Disgorged August 2018. Initial with a little age is just incredible and really allows it to reach its full potential. 2018 disgorgement is showing fabulously, totally in the zone with distinctive Selossien aromatics, a rich, powerful and textural palate with racy acids and a chalky mineral core. There’s both freshness and integrated oxidative complexity yielding a complete, balanced and seamless Champagne. Nothing like Selosse 💛 — 9 months ago

Seascape Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Chardonnay Seascape Vineyard is another incredibly distinctive wine in this range. Candied ginger, passionfruit, lemon confit, white flowers and tangerine oil give this mid-weight Chardonnay tons of character. Bright acids lend freshness and verve to a Chardonnay that is very much on the exotic side of things. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2023) — 3 years ago

9.6

What a wine. Nose is so complex with unreal aromas that honestly are at once mineral and at once so utterly unique I don’t have the vocabulary to grasp them. Apricots is about all I got but the nose is still a 9.7 even if I can’t explain why. Palate is vivacious, rich and elegant but with so much tannin from what I assume is skin contact but also reads as textured and fresh. So brilliant, complex and utterly distinctive. It’s rare I can’t find words to describe wine but here we are. — 5 months ago

Brut Champagne Blend 2009

Quite nice with a distinctive brioche overtone. Full and round, May still need a few years. Been feeling lately like more distinctive profiles in the grower champs vs the big dogs (at big dog $$). — 2 years ago

Matua

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021

This wine screams where it’s from. Pale lemon with green reflexes, the nose reveals intense aromas of elderflower, asparagus, green bell pepper, gooseberry, ripe peach and melon, followed by a medium body with a pungent acidity, defining the wines distinctive freshness. Drink now until 2024. — 3 years ago

Nickel & Nickel

Truchard Vineyard Chardonnay 2023

Nickel & Nickel exclusively produces 100% varietal, single-vineyard wines that express the distinctive personality of each vineyard. Established in 1997 by the partners of Far Niente. Medium lemon color with aromas of tropical and stone fruit with citrus and toasty oak notes. On the palate flavors of apple, pear and peach, lemon zest, vanilla oak and wet stone notes. Nice balance with tangy acidity on long finish ending with fruit, oak and rich minerality. Classic, very nice! — 9 months ago

Thierry Allemand

Chaillot Cornas Syrah 2015

After 2 hours in the decanter 2015 Chaillot is showing beautifully, fully open and giving wafting distinctive Allemand aromas with a seductive, mineral inflicted palette and fine grained tannins. It shows the warmth of the vintage but not at all hot, and its liquid rock minerality and floral lift adds a seamless balance to its fruit character. This is going to keep getting better. Love these wines. — 10 months ago

Cornas Reynard (R) Syrah 2012

This wine is absolutely stunning on hour 2+ so that’s where my notes will reflect. Just wish it showed this way longer! After a lengthy decant 2012 Reynard finally comes alive to flaunt explosive, layered and distinctive Allemand aromatics of cassis, violets, olive and crushed stones. The palate has such concentration, depth and fruit intensity that’s seamlessly balanced with its layered minerality. Finish just keeps on going. Love these wines so much. — 3 years ago
