falling somewhere between fresh and astringent this one needed some time out of the gate. 2 days helps lure out something damp leaf-like, baked berry, and stained pomegranate pith, some pleasant bitters, and a lovely garnet color with a pale blue meniscus. — 3 years ago
This estate was bought in 1988 buy Jean-Michel Cazes (Lynch Bages and more recently Haut-Batailley) and sold in 2017 to the Balland family (Baret). 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged in used Lynch Bages barrels. This 2014 is in a very good place now, but should age well for a few more years. Fresh and elegant, with typical Graves spiciness. Not the most complex but a very solid and seductive effort for the vintage. — 4 years ago
The 4th wine in the degustation with Byron and Paulina. A 50/50 blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from the Loire Valley of all places. A great wine to serve blind to MW and MS students. I recall strawberry and red berry notes in general with quite fluid tannins. So easy to drink. I can’t recall the matching dish but it was a perfect match - duck was involved. — 10 months ago
