Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2021

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three days. Best on Day 3. The 2021 pours, a deep ruby color with medium+ viscosity and moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of black and red bramble fruit, red and purple flowers, black pepper, garrigue, dried herbs, rocky earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose where the pepper plays an even greater role. The finishes long and the texture is silky smooth. The high alcohol is almost imperceptible. On Day 1, this was good but not particularly interesting (though the quality was clearly there). After significant air, this blossomed into a really compelling Gigondas; full of character! Best after 2026 and through 2036+. — 2 days ago

Gigondas Red Rhône Blend 2010

2010. Popped and poured to enjoy during the Olympics Closing Ceremonies. The extra two years since I had my first bottle really helped everything come together. Blueberries and black pepper in the aromas and flavors. — 2 months ago

Tradition Le Grand Montmirail Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

Roasted bell pepper, chunky, meaty grenache. Inky and chalky at the same time. Heavy flowers. Hot dusty tiles in summer time. There’s a lot to write home about, but not everything is in its right place. Good right now and maybe great in the near future. Time will tell. — 2 days ago

Opens with an odd vegetal note but smooths out into a satisfying, well structured Gigondas. Mom up for a visit — 15 days ago

Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2020

Way riper than the ‘16 and ‘19. A little caramelized quality to the fruit. Still has the signature transparency and lift but stylistically not my favorite vintage. — 2 months ago

Terre des Aînés Gigondas Red Rhone Blend 2019

Vintage 2019 | I love this wine. It’s a idiosyncratic character. A Beast. Not willing to show charm. Very old school: classic smell, peat, cedar. Hint of chocolate. I thought it to be a Tannat, that says it. Put away in the cellar for another 3 - 5 years and get it on a windy, rainy autumnday for a dinner with wild boar of deer. Probably you will be amazed and witness a miracle. — 17 days ago
