2nd to last bottle of a long line up in a summer dinner, & showed I thought rather spectacularly between a Petit Chablis & the only red of the night. Paired with local, rich cow cheese- the more vibrant round & traminer- like richness of the varietal came alive as a result. Plus the smoky mineral endive fennel notes made even more clear. Made me rethink how to serve this wine w food, & when. — 3 months ago
Classic Austrian red nose with dark fruit (plums!) and a pinch of allspice & cloves.
Medium bodied, nicely balanced and with a juicy tannic frame filled by ripe plums & cherries. Good depth & nice purity. Plus a long finish. What’s not to like? — 7 months ago
Absolutely a grosses gewachs quality wine.
Nose: sweet minerals. Sweet lemon. Intense. Very intense. Minerals are almost savory they are so intense. Lemon flower.
Palate: so delicious. Gods sweet lemon. Crackling minerality. So balanced.
Long finish. Lingering. — 4 days ago
I love this wine but I’ll admit it’s niche. Glorious confectionary nose. Clearly too young, as this wine really sings starting at 10, but whatever, I got too much wine to drink them all at the perfect time. Sweet wood, stone fruits and intense minerality. Some pollen as well on the nose. Such a complex nose. But in 5 years watch out! Palate is so elegant and rich but fresh from the minerals and not the acid which is merely solid. Really coats the tongue. So good. The finish is stone fruits, sweet wood and that rock licking feeling on your tongue. Just a killer Grau because it’s got that Laible magic. — a month ago
delicious but expensive — a year ago
Settled in. The exuberant Riesling fruit settled down. I am not sure. Preferred this wine when young. More later. Grown on granite in Durbach a little village on the slope of the black forest. Stonefruit, hint peach, lemon. — 4 months ago
Pinotman /// Andreas
Richer and bigger than a Mosel Riesling. But more fine cut than a Pfalz Riesling. This village is across from Straßburg about 30 min in Germany. 13%. Grown on Granite. The only village - Durbach - in Baden that is focused exclusively on Riesling. On the slopes of the black Forest - essentially Black Forest Riesling! A top 10 German Riesling. And this is Andreas Laible’ top vineyard. Next time i will share flavor profile notes. Otherwise look at Lyles! — a day ago
