Hunter Hill

Grosset

Polish Hill Clare Valley Riesling 2013

Aromas of lemon, lime, mineral and white flowers ( the white flowers from an orange tree) - with a touch of paraffin (TDN). The light to medium bodied palate has intensity. Grown organically in the Polish Hill district of the Clare Valley. Definitely in the top 3 Rieslings in Australia - such purity. — 3 days ago

Vat 1 Hunter Valley Semillon 2011

See previous Delectable note in December 2024. Amazingly pale for a 14 year old white. Aromatics of lemon, lanolin and wet straw. It hasn’t yet developed the toasty characters I was expecting, indicating still a long life ahead. Overall this is delicate on a light bodied leanish palate. Only 11% ABV. Lovers of big buttery Chardonnay may not appreciate this wine. 3 bottles left - I will try and have the next one in 12 to 18 months. — 2 months ago

@Bob McDonald, I am envious, but too old as well to be buying wines like this that have barely evolved after a decade. Cheers!

@Doug Powers That is a reality facing me as well Doug but it doesn’t stop me buying certain Burgundies however. I guess someone will enjoy them one day.

Stony Hill

Napa Valley Chardonnay 2006

Pop and pour. A brilliant medium gold color. On the nose: lemon, grilled pear, crushed stone, apricot, caramel, and honey. Taste: chalky, lean acid driven style with pear, steely minerality, green apple, saline, orange/lemon rind, and a medium plus finish. YUM! My favorite Napa chardonnay. — a month ago

I've always wanted to try a Cobb Pinot. He's also the winemaker for Les Claypool Purple Pachyderm line too.

Cakebread Cellars

Vine Hill Ranch Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

2021 is drinking really nicely now. Dark ruby/purple and a big bold nose of plum, vanilla, blueberry and blackberry - in that order. Not too tight or big, but medium acidity and medium large tannins. Long finish with some tobacco and leather once it has opened up a bit. Definitely not a fast sipper, the flavors linger for a good while after each sip. — 4 days ago

St Innocent Winery

Temperance Hill Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Really impressed.
St. Innocent’s consistency of style lets terroir shine through their single vineyard series. Like a controlled experiment. 2021 Temperance Hill shows incredible levels of complexity and spice, while maintaining a great degree of balance and approachability. Put simply, it tastes great.

I haven’t had a chance to taste 2021 Momtazi, but this wine has similar levels of depth to prior vintages if memory serves, while being more easily appealing. I’ve tired 2021 Shea, but not side-by-side with this. While the Shea is an excellent wine, for my taste this is more expressive and interesting.
