Oeil de Perdrix Brut Champagne

Popped and poured from a half bottle; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The “Oeil de Perdrix” is made in the saignée method and pours a pale copper/pink color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of strawberry, raspberry, pink pepper, lemon, and chalky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely expression of a Blanc de Noir Rosé from Bouzy. Disgorged April of 2023. — 2 days ago

Tablas Creek Vineyard

Esprit Blanc de Tablas Roussanne Blend 2022

Yellow/golden in color.

Earthy nose with citrus, lemons, minerals, sea salt, yellow apples, spices, light earth, and light honey.

Medium-plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with citrus, apples, pears, light earth, light honey, sea salt, herbs, oak, white pepper and spices.

Long finish with lemons and light herbs.

This is a delicious white Rhône blend from Paso Robles. Elegant and rich. Fruit-forward and well-balanced.

Good right out of the bottle and gets more complex as it opens up (20 minutes) in the glass.

Drinking beautifully already, at only 2 years old, and will continue to age nicely over the next 5 to 7 years.

Complex and crisp. Spicy and interesting.

Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A blend of 33% Roussanne, 32% Grenache Blanc, 14% Picpoul Blanc, 8% Clairette Blanche, 8% Picardan and 5% Bourboulenc.

12.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2020

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of 90min. The 2020 pours a deep ruby/purple color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of powerful ripe dark and blue fruits: Marionberries, figs, purple flowers, bacon fat, black olives, rocky minerals and soft baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. Young, but this is another lovely vintage of Chave Saint-Joseph. Give it time. Best after 2030 and drink through 2040+. — 5 days ago

Very nicely aged Morgon with all that Gamay ripened cherry fruit earth goodness with soft balanced profile on palate and a finish that is well, elegant? — 16 days ago

Chateau St. Jean

Cinq Cépages Sonoma County Red Blend 2016

Strong alcohol taste, esp at first. Needs to open up a bit, then full of flavor and gives a nice buzz quickly due to high alcohol content. — 9 days ago

Mon Coeur Côtes du Rhône Red Rhone Blend 2022

8.9

Great base-level CdR from the negociant side of Chave. Floral and high toned fruit on the nose, red fruit and a bit of pepper on the finish. Some good typical spice. Decent finish. Slightly high alcohol. Probably has some upside with aging. — a month ago
