The 2018 Palazzo della Torre comes to life in the glass with a vibrant mix of balsam herbs, black cherries and cloves. It’s cool-toned in feel, yet silky and stacked with dark fruits and exotic spices. A tantalizing mix of zesty acids and minerals keeps the energy high, as the 2018 tapers off potent yet completely balanced and fresh. The Palazzo della Torre is fantastic, especially at this price point. After tasting the 2017 last year, I was a little worried about a stylistic change, but talk about making a comeback. This is a mix of Corvina Veronese, Corvinone, Rondinella and Sangiovese, where a small portion of the grapes are left to raisin for three months prior to vinification. Smelling this i'm reminded of the sweet wines in Piemont. Elderflower is the dominant note on the nose and I expected this to be quite light...it isn't! Sweet and sticky with lots of citrus peel and later a bit of raisin and spice. Was impressive and original. Paired with pear frangipan — 8 months ago
Best wine I’ve had in a while. Liquid raisin! Smells like oak, campfire, and raisin. Tannic and astringent but full bodied with some sweetness-almost port-like. Definitely not cheap but also not the most expensive wine on the shelf. 100% worth it. Enjoyed with bolognese. Would love to have again — 2 years ago
Glou glou but also polished. Not rough around the edges. Just a nice, fruit forward, easy drinking quaff. — 3 years ago
Lightly funky, acidic, dry and does taste a bit like a cider — 2 years ago
Poured through an aerator and sat for 15 minutes…
NOSE: strong, clear cassis. Meat. Pine, forest. Very mild chocolate and a little ash - and some raisin - but the cassis dominates.
Taste: medium weight, elegant, fruity bordeaux, with enough tannin to balance it perfectly - as on the nose, cassis and dark berry flavors dominate, but with a good herbal backbone. Simpler than I’d hoped, but just so very well made it doesn’t matter. Would love to taste this in a few years. 92. — 2 years ago
A delicious blend of mostly Malbec, Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon. The Malbec initially takes center stage with classic aromas of black cherry, raisin, & sweet tobacco. Full bodied on the pallate but the Merlot definitely mellows the wine as it has medium well integrated tannins along with flavors of blackberry, baking spices & vanilla. aired nicely with NY strip streaks & grilled asparagus! Very dense and black in colour. These wines always remind me of Fruit and Nut milk chocolate. The colour makes you think full bodied but it’s actually light to medium bodied. A luscious mouth filling palate with the savoury milk chocolate together with notes of raisin and date. Supple yet persistent tannins. Reminiscent of a Priorat Garnacha in some respects. — 2 months ago
