2022/5/13 with zukedon, etc. From a half-bottle, bought on release. Bright yellow-gold. On the nose this has developed that honeyed note which only comes from cold northern Chardonnay with some age. There’s also steel and stone. The palate is very intense - it starts with more honey and perhaps some candied citrus peel, but more chalk and steel quickly take prominence. This is a powerfully mineral, dry, salty, alkaline wine - like most 2006s from all over Burgundy, the acidity feels on the low side (though it’s there at the edges of the mouth), and this isn’t about fruit either (with the main fruit note from the mid palate onwards being bitter citrus oils). Bracing, fascinating. — 3 years ago
The sleeper vintage, one at this time I bet to be even more showy than the illustrious 2000. It’s simply just ready to go after a short decant wafting from the glass with layers of cassis, black truffle, violets and licorice. This is a wine of texture and elegance, as Margaux should be—It’s liquid cashmere in the mouth with melting tannins and a black truffle and mineral inflicted finale that keeps on going. Superb showing tonight, with still a long life ahead. — 2 days ago
Graphite, plum, sesame, blueberry on the mid palate. Huge in the mouth. — 7 months ago
Decanted in the glass for 30 minutes, with bottle open during that time and later. The best wine experience so far. I tried it before on a tasting and was not impressed. Brioche, toast, citrus, apple and racing acidity were still present in my mouth after 2 minutes of taking a sip. I prefer to drink it the way I described at the beginning vs straight from the bottle that was standing in ice. — 8 months ago
At over 20 years old, the 2004 Opus One is showing beautifully, striking a balance between maturity and vibrancy. On the nose, it opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, layered with subtle notes of violet, tobacco, and espresso.
On the palate, the wine is smooth and full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a silky texture that coats the mouth without being heavy. The core is rich with dark fruit—black plum, currant, and a touch of blueberry—balanced by earthy undertones and a whisper of leather. Definitely one of my favorites. — 4 months ago
White burg perfection. Captivatingly complex aromatics with Coche fireworks on full display, layered with popcorn, citrus oils and white flowers. What texture on the palate. Incredible volume and density, particularly for the vintage, fills the mouth with vibrant energy and phenomenal length. So good. — 8 months ago

1st Growth Bordeaux comparison. Mind blowing. I mean, from a weak Bordeaux vintage comes this masterpiece which can be enjoyed now or saved for decades to come. Beautiful nose and almost perfumed with roses and black cheery and blueberry, cedar, and pencil shavings. The palate is pure bliss full of complexity, intensity yet balanced and the finish just goes on and on. Cheers. — a month ago
