Let’s talk about SAVENNIÈRES!!!! 📣📣
Savennières is a small but mighty appellation (AOC), located in the Anjou subregion of the Loire Valley, France and specializes in still, dry Chenin Blanc wines. 🇫🇷
Its growing environment is apt for producing concentrated and ripe fruit, translating into wines with strong aromatic and flavor intensity and higher alcohol potential. 💪🏻 It’s no wonder this appellation is all about Chenin Blanc; Chenin has naturally higher acidity, which can help lend structure and balance to the final wine. ⚖️ 🙌🏻🙌🏻
The combination of these factors sets the stage for winemakers to produce some truly powerful and age-worthy whites that can improve, gaining complexity (and softening) with some time in the bottle. 🤔 🧐 Savennières has a reputation as a more serious, cerebral wine that is meant to be savored, especially when paired with a creamy seafood dish like Coquilles Saint-Jacques! 😋 🥘
🌿This particular wine is the Nicolas Joly, Clos de la Coulée de Serrant AOC (2019) hailing from the prized enclave of Coulée de Serrant AOC (within Savennières AOC), owned exclusively and farmed biodynamically by the renowned Nicolas Joly.
This wine is surely capable of aging for decades but tonight we opted to sip this golden wine during the golden hour with unseasonably warm, summery temperatures here in Minnesota.
🐝 🍯 In the glass, we found concentrated, layered notes of honey, beeswax, yellow apple, ripe apricot, quince, chamomile, dried & crushed white rose petals, toasted almond, hazelnut, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, acrylic paint, wet stones, salted caramel, & butterscotch.
It has texture (and finish) for days and a coating mouthfeel.
🫣 Its alcohol by volume clocks in at 15%!!! But it’s well-integrated and balanced by a crisp acidity and robust aromas and flavors. 👌 — a month ago

Good minerality - wet stone, like many PYCM wines particularly from Saint Aubin, yellow fruits and citrus. 60 year old vines. Warmer site than Champlots. Looking at previous Delectable Notes for 2017 and 2015 for this Cuvée, the tasting notes are similar. — 2 months ago

Hard to find Extra Brut in 375 ml’s where I shop and seek online. This is very solid always. Bouzy also one of my favorite places for champagne.
For a Pinot that is 80% of the blend here, you sure get lots of green apple, golden apple & apple cider. There is noticeable tangerine, white citrus blend-lemon, lime & both grapefruits. Ginger & ginger-ale, sea fossils/spray, limestone marl w/ bits, bread dough to baguette crust, graham cracker crust, malt, volcanic minerals w/ash, lighter caramel, butterscotch candy, vanillin, frothy cream, white orchids and spring flowers, lively, zippy acidity, well; toned, structured, balance with a beautiful two- minute finish that lands on minerals & spice. — 4 months ago

Superb for its humble appellation. Delicate nose needs a little coaxing, but when it comes through it’s got ripe lemon, a little moist limestoney gravel, and a faint hazelnut note. In the mouth it’s a little less shy, with a Meursault-like amalgam of smoky gravel, lemon oil, and dry oatmeal, though in a lighter format. Fantastic acids. Finish is quite lingering. Is it worth $90? Well, if you’re in the mood for PYCM and see it on the shelf, then, yes, you take it home. I was, I saw, I took home.
UPDATE: two hours later, as it warms and breathes, holy cow, what a wine. More of everything. Upping from 9.2 to 9.3. Yes, 9.3 for a Bourgogne Blanc. — a month ago
Beautiful, whip-smart Northern Rhône Syrah with blackberry, violets, granite and, after air, a gorgeous olive note running through both the nose and palate. The texture is sleek and refined, with excellent freshness, fine tannins and a long, elegant finish. Not quite as complete or tightly composed as the monumental 2019, but still an exceptional Gonon and a brilliant expression of the vintage. — 4 months ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two hours. The 2023 pours a straw color with medium viscosity. On the nose, the wine is developing with wonderful notes of Granny Smith apple, passion fruit, grilled pineapple, white flowers, lemon cake, fine spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and laden with chalky minerals. The texture is creamy. Unbelievable quality. Drink now through 2038. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 8 days ago
