A testament to what a great producer can do in a less than stellar vintage. Medium garnet color with a small ruby core and slight brick rim. Aromas of macerated red fruit, dried herbs and wood smoke. Flavors of dark cherries, dried tarragon, basil and sage, and smoky vanilla. Touch of minerality on the long and lingering finish with ample acidity. Extremely savory and complex. In its prime. This needed a day to open up. Delicate and soft Sangiovese with refined structure. My preference over the Pieve Santa Restituta.

The oak has integrated from my previous note in February 2017 where the influence of oak Barriques was overly present. Sangiovese is not enhanced by too much oak in my opinion and is best matured in large Botti like I said in my previous note like Biondi Santi. Red cherry and earth notes finishing with powdery tannins. Coming together. — 4 months ago

Venetian Merlot with fresh crush and partially dried grapes. Aged in barriques.. Plum, cinnamon and pepper on the nose. Tight on opening. After about an hour very earthy old world style on the palate - slightly dense. Dark fruit, prune, cinnamon, leather, damp soil. Oak is prominent and finish was long and refreshing. Not a casual dinner wine - probably best with a hearty stew or fatty roast. — 3 years ago
