Wow. What a bouquet. Even surrounded by the fragrance of lilies, I can just smell the essence of lavender, honey, meadowy grass, slight slight saffron. Wonderful.
This is a sipping wine. Almost a shame to waste it on poker night, since I won’t be able to give it, its full attention.
Slight bubbles, but I wouldn’t really want anymore. The acidity hits its note right on cue, balancing nicely with its off-dry quality. Definitely a bit of that petrol afternote. It works here, though, playing nicely off the backdrop of the after-the-rain dewy fields and mango/lavender note.
A symphony in the forest. — 6 years ago
I am very excited to drink this. From old vine Zin grapes grown on my favorite site (Beatty Ranch in Howell Mountain). And on cue it delivers that classic Beatty Ranch earthy black peppercorn spice on the nose, hovering over dark, very spicy blackberry and crushed rock. Absolutely attacks the palate with savory flavors. But no jamminess in the least. Very full but the 14.5 is well hidden. Such a long finish. Love this. — 7 years ago
juicy peaches and dried apricot drizzled with honey. — 7 years ago
🎸Just what I needed 🎸 (cue The Cars)
Sometimes a wine just hits the spot. Elegant and refreshing. Smells like fresh nectarine and limestone. Tastes like chalk and stones with hints of barely ripe red fruit (strawberry, watermelon). Acid for days. Divine with cucumber salad. — 4 years ago

That’s a lot of dressing, is it KETO friendly?
Taking a cue from @Severn Goodwin I’m drinking some MO wine, which is made just a few hours from where I live. I had never had anything by Stone Hill prior to this, assuming it wasn’t very good, but I was wrong. This is a great light bodied red and was great with a slight chill. Black and blue fruits, forest floor, and a mineral streak combine with medium + acid and light tannins for an easy drinking, dry, fresh red. I bought a few of this producer’s wines and look forward to trying the others. A pleasant surprise! — 4 years ago

Medium body satin smooth/flower bomb, good tannins and a pepper finish 2013 vintage. Great sans food but seems like the body would work with a Asian, bar b cue or fish entree. It’s a blend!!!!! — 7 years ago

Intense stuff! Apple and eucalyps on the nose! Almonds, herbs and a little oak in the palette. — 4 years ago
Everything about this wine screams uncool in our industry in the present era: high alcohol (14%), heavy extraction, generous use of new oak (presumably), ripe + chewy tannins, flavors that shout rather than whisper and high praise from Robert Parker (cue Elaine or Carlton Banks’ dance moves). Maybe it’s my 90’s nostalgia or maybe I’ve been drinking too much vintage port these days 🤷🏻♀️ but it all works beautifully here: intense aromas of licorice, pepper, cedar, black plum, wet tar, dried tobacco, cranberries, cassis, dried violets. And this is only the beginning... A blast of macerated red and black berries on the palate, held together by a solid acid backbone, followed by a long finish laced with black olive, dried tobacco, mocha and mineral. Hedonistic. Three cheers for Alicante Bouschet! — 5 years ago

Faire la Fête takes its cue from village of Limoux – “birthplace of bubbles” - where world’s longest running annual carnival celebration allows revelers to dance, sing, celebrate and enjoy an endless flow of sparkling wine. A blend of70% Chardonnay, 20% Chenin Blanc & 10% Pinot Noir. Clean, light aromatic nose of citrus, stone fruits and yeasty notes. Palate, ripe apple and lemon flavors, slightly creamy texture, balanced by crisp acidity and fine bubbles on lingering citrusy finish. — 7 years ago

My wine pick of the evening. Everyone went down the road of young Cab, and even Syrah in this one - RDD 2011 is potential cellar material - shows incredible youth in fruit with slow aging characteristics. This stuff was insanely good for this vintage. — 8 years ago

You've all had this before. It's Penfold's budget offering, and it's the secret weapon in my braised short rib. Cue Julia Childs, "A splash for the short rib, a half bottle for me..." Holy man, this leaves you feeling like you ate a pack of Sour Patch Kids. Puckering. Super sour blackberries, herbs, and some cedar tannins. Long finish.
