Domaine des Lambrays

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2005

2005 vintage.
Rich black cherries, cocoa spice, orange peel, dark flowers, subois and earthy.
Long generous finish with crisp acidity and fine grained tannins.
This was bequeathed to me years ago at a Celebration of Life for a gentleman who was greatly influential and guiding on my wine journey.
A stunning wine from an incredible individual.
Cheers everyone.

Special moments, Jamie. I once got a Gloria 1959 from a wine reseller who liked my youthful enthusiasm. The birthyear of my wife, we drank it with the birth of our first child. 🫶

Classic. Slight note of hibiscus flower on the nose. Mixed with forest floor. Long finish and not over sweet and fruit forward. Drinking nicely … — 15 days ago

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Post dinner party notes. Third bottle I’ve had of this and by far the best yet. Amazing. Such a complex nose, with roasted herbal notes, dark spicy fruit, earthy mineral iodine notes Tannins just about completely resolved. Length and depth for days. Wow. — 3 months ago

Interesting. I might have this wine as well. I seem to recall it was so super oaky, couldn’t taste anything. Glad to read that it became more balanced.

Clos de Tart Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2017

Medium ruby with a medium garnet rim . Touch more sweetness on the nose , with rose , ripe cherry , red plum , raspberry , blood orange and some slightly toasty notes . On the palate this is juicy and quite sweet fruit profiled with raspberry, strawberry, quite fruit dominated . Rounded but noticeable tannins , fresh vibrant acidity and decent length . This is quite young, certainly compared to the Malconsorts , pretty sweet fruit , but overall well balanced and probably just needs a little more time . Quite a lot appears to be hidden at the moment , comes across a little one dimensional, but I think it will get there . Come back in 5-8 years, should drink well a further 10, if not more. — 17 days ago

Domaine Hubert Lignier

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Hubert Lignier's Clos de la Roche 2001 is an elegant beast—powerful in structure, layered and unfolding progressively, with fleshy texture, dark fruit, and black pepper intertwining. It's a very 'un-Roche' Roche. I've had AR's Roche and Dujac's Roche before, but neither had this kind of sheer power.

The 2014 DRC Richebourg exceeded expectations. I wasn't a big fan of the 2014 vintage before—it's a weaker year after all. But this one only started to open up after three hours of decanting, from 5 PM to 8 PM. I poured it three times over the evening, and each glass showed a different evolution:

· First glass: hawthorn and sour plum soup.
· Second glass: elegant rose perfume began to emerge, along with white pepper spice.
· Third glass: fully opened—red fruit, floral notes, and licorice intertwined, with a slender, lean, elegant frame—charming and refined, never cloying.

What a joyful evening. Both bottles were absolutely delightful!

Anniversary wine! Classic Nuit! Secondary characteristics starting to develop but still very fresh. Forest floor, dark fruits, a bit vegetal. Very layered. — 2 months ago

Mes Cinq Terroirs Gevrey-Chambertin Pinot Noir 2021

188$. I love the wine maker and have back vintages. But I am at the point that I am done with red burghs - they are just insanely overpriced. This used to be in the 60‘s. Yes cherry some earth. And perhaps mushrooms. But boy at this price i just can’t recommend this wine over Oregon or especially German Pinots at 50% or more discount. Gained complexity (tea notes & spice) after 2 days on Argon so I increased rating to 9.3. Still the price ……. — 8 days ago
