St. Émilion, Libournais

Château Grand Mayne

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

2012 vintage. From Coravin. Light-medium body. Coming at you, in both nose and flavors, with the earthy, leathery, darker fruits trifecta. Ample tannins and definitely dry but enough balance lingering, long-term concerns under the rug for now. Had I been blind-tasting this, likely woulda guessed Pomerol. Definitely lacking any betraying trace of St. Émilion fleshiness now. 5.9.24. Really nice, affordable bottle of BDX with 10+ years of age on it. I'd hit this again. 5.9.24. — 2 days ago

Château Fonplégade

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Popped, double-decanted, and poured. Engaging right out of the gate. Rich nose shows deep cassis and dark berries, underbrush, graphite, and low-toned minerality. Rich on the attack, with mouth-coating, clingy fruit that later shows persistent savory and dark mineral notes. The tannins are there but are overwhelmed by the fruit. Really nice concentration with zero jamminess and loads of elegance. Nice but subtle acids. Very impressed with this. — 11 days ago

Drinking so well. A great wine and a first for me. It’s got so much freshness and energy is the headline. Nose is cassis, vanilla, tobacco, spice and some hints of black fruits. Also a background of awesome minerality. A plump nose which belies what comes on the palate. It’s rich but just teeming with energy and so much black and red fruit that is super crunchy and luscious. Gorgeous clarity to the minerality and a freshness I haven’t tasted in Bordeaux maybe ever. I really like the vibe of this wine. The finish keeps pumping. Very very impressive. It’s also so sappy on the finish and just outrageously complex. — 8 days ago

@Lyle Fass Compared to Napa Cabs-no. For BDX, depends on the producer.

Clos de l'Oratoire des Papes

Comtes de Neipperg St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). Medium ruby/garnet color with a slight brick colored rim. Aromas and flavors of dried cherries, currants, boysenberries and blueberries with notes of orange zest, graphite and violets. Pleasant long finish. Soft tannins and creamy/velvety texture. Extremely well balanced. Silky tannins. Aging gracefully. — 5 days ago

Château Pavie

Saint-Èmilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

This rating is just my taste. Not a reflection of the quality of the wine. I generally don’t care for the St Emilion region. The wine is just too austere for me. It’s 22% cab franc. It had a slight puckering dried out character without balance to me. Definitely can tell it’s a well made wine. Perhaps with a strong food pairing this would be a better experience for me but it was a wine I didn’t enjoy drinking. — 9 days ago

Imho, the Pavie stuff needs, at least, a 20-spot. Otherwise, it's discombobulated, jumbled and fragmented.

Château Quinault

L'Enclos St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

NOSE: cassis, baking chocolate, oregano and pine, a little mint … dandelion? Not sumptuous, but inviting.

TASTE: baking chocolate and clove … dry currant…earth...pine…cassis…PINE. Could age a long while yet, but delicious now and true to style. 93.
